Easy Face with input cap blend

Joe Gagan's Easy Face hybrid Fuzz Face with input cap blend control - as requested. You should get away with almost any PNP germanium as there's 2N3096 driving it. Documentation states that the trimmer should be used to get ~4.5V on Q2 collector - I suggest you tune it by ear :) This one uses positive ground, so check your wiring or use a voltage inverter like this.

  1. Verified work perfect but instead of 100nf next to q1 i would say a 10nf would be better. Thanks for the fast vero convertion.

  2. if i put 2 germaniums in this would it work like an all germanium fuzz face

    1. It depends on the pinout of the transistor as well as whether its NPN or PNP, its not as simple as just swapping them.

  3. Pretty much. Change the 33k to 47k

  5. Remember that you can just reverse the circuit (not input/output)ground and -9V connections, and use a +9V supply. No need for all that charge pump stuff. Love this site, have built quite a few.

  6. The diagram as shown appears to be incorrect. The 100nF cap next to Q1 should be 10 nF according to Gagan's circuit. With the value given in the diagram, the tone control is basically useless. Works great with 10 nF though.

  7. Good day... complete newbie here. I noticed the LED and resister aren't included on this, is there a spot on this board they could be placed, or would adding another row before the vol/gain/blend connections be necessary?

    1. hey ryan. in order the LED and its resistor is typically not included on the layout, and is part of the offboard wiring. it's all here

    2. Thanks Zack, a little late, but just getting back to this now!

  8. I have another question... for the blend 1&2/pregain 2 and the blend 3, this differs from the wiring diagram on GGG. it shows blend 2&3 (with the jumper). Which is correct? The jumper is reversed for the board instructions. I know they use a reverse taper pot for the GGG build, but the instructions indicate they show it as a regular b pot, while recommending a reverse taper. For my build, I have this strange issue where as I turn the volume down, I get a buzzing sound that increases. I need to have all the pots and the trimmer jacked up to max to get any sound, and still the amp has to be turned up really loud to hear it. thanks again, and glad I'm finally able to get to this. I tied the output sleeve and the centre switch positive together and soldered them to the -9v positive rail. Would there be an issue with this? thanks again
