Here's a collection of vero (stripboard) and tagboard guitar and bass effect layouts that we have put together covering many classic and popular effects in growing numbers. Many of these have been posted on freestompboxes.org, so check that site out for great discussions on building your own effect pedals. Enjoy the builds and please also visit us on Facebook and Twitter
You need the Java runtime environment installing to run it. There is a version 3 out now which I'm sure many people will prefer, but I'm used to V2 and prefer it. I also think the end results look better but that's just my own preference.
Tag it. This was the third build for this rainy sunday morning :)
Yes. It's severe ripoff. And a bit spoiled one too. I guess that's why Mark didn't have much love for the layout. :)
Gain pot needs to be reversed (1 to 3 and vice versa), blue wire that says "output" goes to volume lug 3, vol 1 to the ground and vol 2 is the output. Once those were settled, i started to test it....
Idea of having yellow leds as symmetric clipping and germaniums (i used 1N34As) for asym is a good idea. I have thought about using that for some time for something. That's probably the only good thing here. Cap changes make the mids mush and overall tone quite nasal. High articulation of the Crunchbox is totally gone. In my opinion, it sounds more like a TS-9 mod gone wrong..
As a curiosity, it's a nice build. But as it is, i'm not going to box it. Might swap some caps around to see if it comes alive... (as it's a shame to waste three 1N34As :))
Nah. I've built only 9,5 hours and verified 4 layouts today :)
Maybe i should do something else for the rest of the day...
On this one i used axial for power filtering, so there was room (and a cut ready) to use right side of the first row for led. Corrections look more compact and so on. If i figure out how to get that nasality out of there i'll let you know...
Hi guys just two questions, if I dont want the 3 way Brite switch. I just leave without soldering the switch or I need make some bridge or what? And the clipping switch is go solder on the 1 and 2 gain of the veroboard or in 1 and 2 gain of the pot, or no matter where? thanks.
Look at the bright switch - the left side connects to 'SW2' on the board, the right side connects to 'ground'. The middle position of the switch is off, so this just goes from the SW2 to ground. So, all you need to to omit the switch is run a jumper from SW2 on the board to ground. Easy
It doesn't matter if you connect the clipping switch to the board or the pot, as long as they're connected. The connection is still exactly the same either way.
I could compare it with the CRUNCH BOX and they are very similar internally ..... and without more .... I will do it and I will comment my opinion ....
Hi!
ReplyDeleteJust curious on which layout software do you use for your vero boards?

Guess this has to be build at some point :)
ReplyDeleteAre the pots all B100K?

Doh! How did I miss that? They should be:
DeleteGain 250K Lin, Tone 10K Rev Log, Volume 100K Lin
You'll probably like this because it's a modded Crunch Box.
