Haunting Mids V3

Straight from the music forum equivalent of the Freemasons, without the funny handshake but your membership can be black-balled.  The original has a trimmer for gain but I have put this as an external pot for my own personal preference in muff-like pedals.  If you'd prefer to keep it authentic then remove the wires and either put a long lead trimmer in there like the Alps RH06, or using flying leads and have a little gain trimmer daughterboard like this.

  1. Yup. Massive, but more articulate than basic BMPs. Nice. This'll get a spot at the front of the to-be-boxed drawer.

Used TO-18 2N2222, which doesn't seem to be a bad option. All three measured around 300 hFE. I used MLCs for 470p - but for all the others - Mylars. Looks sick. And sounds sick too.

Never thought that zeners would work that well for clipping. (1N4742 - 12V zener..) The non-gating of basic muffs is gone. Not that big of a change, but still. I'd recommend this in a heartbeat as an alternative for any BMP. Well. Green russian still can't be beat for a bass...

    2. Ha awesome! I'm drawn to this one, just for something a little different to the usual muffs.

  2. I built this one today and its great! Mine isn't gated though. Maybe its because I used 1N4742A?

    Either way it sounds excellent

    1. Miro, what made you decide on that order? Usually people put an od into a big muff.
      Thanks

    2. I've have built a few fuzz -> boost boxes lately, and i've loved all of them. Fuzzrong to SHO (w/ master volume) was really impressive. I've done 808 to BMP before, and while that is a good combo, it just feels a bit ordinary to keep the OD on and fire up the muff after it for leads. To be completely honest, i have no idea what people usually do :) I do what i want :D http://youtu.be/lZLVi4v7lSM

    3. Interesting, i'm no stranger to putting things in the 'wrong' order but i was just wondering what it is about the sound that made you put them that way round?
      Thanks

    4. Idea of using fuzz as base tone and making it more massive for leads with a booster or OD - Rather than driving the fuzz to the max.

    5. That, of course, means that the circuit after the fuzz has to be loud.

    6. Ah i see the logic. Do you reckon this is a muff variant worth building?
      Thanks

    7. It is pretty nice and sounds like all the other BMPs - So if you're into Muffs, why not :)

  4. Put another of these together with BC550Cs. Not that big of a difference. Still recommending 2N2222As :)

  6. kinda OT, but imho i always put fuzz first, then distortion, then overdrives. in my experience, it works/sounds better. try it. ;)
