Here's a collection of vero (stripboard) and tagboard guitar and bass effect layouts that we have put together covering many classic and popular effects in growing numbers. Many of these have been posted on freestompboxes.org, so check that site out for great discussions on building your own effect pedals. Enjoy the builds and please also visit us on Facebook and Twitter

ReplyDeleteThanks for the layout Mark, this is definitely on my build list.
Well it is a Tube Screamer and very similar to the Langraff Dynamic Overdrive. I used the JRC44558 and tried various trannys for the input and output stages. The LEDs can be a part of an On/Off/On switch to allow asymmetric 2-to-1 1N914 clipping or diode lifting (OFF) which sounds awesome and a edgy booster.
ReplyDeleteAnyway this pedal rocks and once our band's guitarist played with it once he didn't wanna give it back.
Build it and Rock away!
Did you build this from this layout? Should it be tagged?

What could I expect if I use 4148's instead of the leds?
ReplyDeleteSlightly less compressed and probably little more open distortion.
DeleteAs this TS-mod goes, i would probably use 1N4001s for it myself :)

you can tag this one. its verified. i was on the fence with this one. i'm not really a tubescreamer guy, but the curiosity of why someone would pay so much for a pedal persuaded me to build it. i'm glad i did. it sounds real nice. i've been playing it with my tele through an old champ turned down low, and man, this thing has some soul! this one is pretty high up on my "to be boxed" list, and worth the build if you ask me
ReplyDeleteSorry mate, totally missed this. Thanks very much for verifying :o)

ReplyDeleteWhat trannies can I sub with
ReplyDeleteAny NPN will be just fine. Those are just impedance transforming buffers, so they will not affect your tone at all. Try 2N3904. Those should be the cheapest ones around. And it'll sound just as good as the exotic ones.

Carbon resistors? Really? Why?
ReplyDeleteI have just built this pedal and I am only getting sound when the volume is all the way up. No issues when bypassed. I've checked for unwanted bridges, and checked component location. Never had this issue with a build before. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteGoing the issue, 100uf capacitor was off by one position.
DeleteAWESOME overdrive! Turns a Deluxe Reverb into a Marshall!
