It didn't sound right at first so i replaced the transistors and it sounded great. This is the second fuzz pedal i've built and the same thing happened on the first one. Maybe the transistors got fried somehow? Does anyone know why?
Thanks for verifying. Did you socket the transistors or solder them straight to the board? They can take some stick but there's still a chance of heat damage if the soldering took a little too long. I use PCB headers to socket transistors in all my builds. It also makes it easy to swap and change transistor types and gain levels to see what you prefer.
Yeah, I socketed them. I too use the pcb headers (40 row style and just break off a section of 3). Another thing I noticed is when the gain is all the way down, it completely cuts off the volume. I may build another to see if it's a fluke or if it's suposed to be like that. Thanks for the schematic, it's a great sounding fuzz.
Yes it should completely cut off the volume. The Intensity pot in the full ccw position takes the effect input to ground and so is basically just a pre-effect attenuator.
