Found this circuit from the DEFX files and thought this to be quite interesting. Discontinued circuit with noise for days. From the source:
The GREEN
MONSTER septic fuzz (GM2)is an effect
pedal to create a septic distortion.
Characterized by a dirty, broken and rotten sound. Bad handling!
GREEN MONSTER is back with four knobs! There is an easy to use sound
which the first GREEN MONSTER (ultra fuzz) was never able to create,
but the sound is still putrifying! Genuine septic sound can be found
here!
First one is close to the original...
...and the latter is with DEFX mods - adding a gain switch for stock and other...
Damn this looks cool!
ReplyDeleteSounds pretty cool with some dirt stacked after it... I'll give it a ponder
ReplyDeleteI think there is an error in the original layout - there should be a link between row 1 and row 3 to the left of the IC. This is performed by the switch in the modded layout. Otherwise, I bread-boarded it and it sounds like the video.
ReplyDeleteBuilt it with the mod switch. Didn't work at first but shorting row 1 and 3 to the left of the ic made it sort of work but it was disappointingly not really loud, just about the same volume as input (when maxing the pots out).
DeleteShorting 4.7m and 470k between rows 1 and 2 made the volume more pleasing but the pots still act very strange (sens1 literally just acting like an other volume pot like before). Also, there is no difference in sound when flicking the mod switch.
I really don't know what's up with this layout. I used ua741's instead of lm741's but I am not sure that this is relevant to the problems I am encountering
Is 1N5817 diode significant for the effect in any way, like affecting tone, or is it just for circuit protection and can be substituted with a similar one?
ReplyDeleteAny info would be helpful
