Fuchs Audio Plush Cream

Some info about the original:

The Tube Screamer might be the most popular and famous overdrive pedal ever made. Made popular by SRV and countless others, the TS-808 (and its derivatives) have become legendary. When we designed the Plush® Cream™, we sought to produce a pedal with the 3-knob simplicity of this classic pedal, while refining the overall design to modern boutique standards. In addition to the selected Integrated circuit, we carefully chose each resistor and capacitor to voice the Cream™ to be quiet, smooth yet articulate, and dynamic. It responds well to both picking strength and guitar volume, and, best of all, it feels like a tube amp. The gain control takes you from a mild edge to the hardest scream. The tone control takes you from a warm "woman tone" to a screaming lead tone with just the right amount of sparkle. Choose your tone, then set your level with the output control and rock on!

Another layout, this time with the addition of the diode in the power filtering network. There are a few changes to the original layout that will allow for the diode to be easily inserted.

  2. I want to build this just for 'warm woman tone' alone .. but alas it will have to wait a little while for me

    1. put a bumble bee inside your cavity :) , i think its a 15 nF

    2. That stood out to me too. What is it supposed to mean. A lot of pedal descriptions are laughable but that's something else entirely

    3. It's just another tubescreamer clone with a few changes. Not saying it sounds bad or good for that matter, it's just there are so many pedals out there like this that it just is. It's sad cause even companies that swore they would never do a tubescreamer, earthquaker was viament they would never make a tubescreamer now have one.

    4. You guys never heard the term "woman tone"? That's Eric Clapton's word for that tone when you have the tone control turned all the way off.

And don't waste your money on bumble bee caps. All caps sound the same. And those are fake anyway. They are metal film caps with a fake bumble bee shell.

  3. God Job Zach - nice, compact layout. I will be trying this one out very soon. I am a fan of Fuchs and the description makes it sound great. It is interesting how the 5532 has become a much more popular OpAmp these days (most older circuits used TL072, 82 or 4588). Glad I stocked up awhile back.

  4. Fuch's stuff is really ...musical. Great tones. Thanks for getting this on the sight!!

  5. etc.....any other fuchs builds would be a great addition.
And yes...every car on the road is akin to the model-T.
Fuchs has some great sounding stuff!

  6. You can find some logic gate diagram templates like these in the diagram community if that helps.

  7. Zach - personally I would still be helped a great deal if the diagrams were separated into two pictures (like in the old days) - one for parts and another just for cuts & links. I had to look a long time to find the cut under the diode, and later I accidentally placed another cut off by one hole (the one between 220n and 100uf) and usually one can work around errors like that, but not in this case, so I basically have to start over.

Not saying it is your fault, but I think it would be easier for people to read the cuts without all the clutter. Just a suggestion.

  8. What's the wire for the LED+? for indicates on/off effect? (sorry, my english is bad =X)

    1. That hooks to the on/off, + side, diode(light) that usually goes to the 9v lug on the dcjack.

    2. What is the benefit of connecting the power-indicating LED like this, compared to the usual offboard-wiring?

    3. Less outboard connections hanging loose.

    4. Has this been verified yet? I figured out a way to make the one circuit I had made (with one cut in the wrong place) workable, but I do not get output from the IC. Just wondering if anyone has successfully built this yet. It could be my build has a problem, or my ICs. I seem to have trouble with my 5532s, seems like everything I build them has a problem. But I tried an 072 and still no sound.

  9. no one has this one working? is it bad?
think i'll give it a shot this weekend. demo sounded really good I thought.

  11. Go ahead and call it verified. Every thing works as it should. Good job. It's definitely in the TS family. But from the bit I played it. I found it much warmer, and I like it better than the TS9 I have. Which I find to be very nasally in tone. As with most builds I would socket the IC, diodes and tone caps. So you can alter to suite your rig. But a nice sounding pedal. nice clean boost as well.

    1. "...find to be very nasally"

That's exactly what I think of most TS style circuits. And I agree, I definitely like this one more than the others I've tried.

Great layout too Zach! Looking forward to building it.

    2. I got a chance to play the circuit a bit more. and found its making a lot more noise than I think it should. I may have verified to early. Anyone building this let me know if you have any noise issues. I'll try to troubleshoot my issue.

      Delete
    3. hmm. i took the verified ts808 layout and modified the values and moved a few things around to get the extra clipping diode in. i wonder why it's noisy, and wonder if it's IC noise, if the filter cap should be upped. i did leave out the diode in the power filtering network.

  12. it seems to work. and i tried different IC. But almost makes me think of a ground issue. gets really loud when no guitar signal is present. Might be a build issue.

    1. hmmm, i could be a grounding or build issue, i'm not sure. but just in case it's the layout i just uploaded another layout with the diode and made a few changes to accomplish the addition. not sure if that will solve the noise.

  13. Hey Zack, thanks for the updated layout. I'll try to troubleshoot thru my build. It's most likely on my end. If someone else builds this please let us know how it came out. Circuit sounds good & worth building if you don't already have 50 TS style pedals.

  14. Sounds like it does work - noise issues are usually fixable when it gets boxed. Double-check the ground scheme and make sure no signal wires get close to IC. I hope to try it again soon, I am actually out of sizable VERO board (first time that has ever happened) which is why I am waiting for the Tayda coupon.

  15. On the 2nd version, you might want to flip the protection diode and remove the jumper, that's shorting pin 8 of the chip, to ground...

    1. Also, double jump from M,T to O,T to get the power right.

    2. took a look at it again, and i placed the diode in the wrong spot. really it should only span 3 rows, and it should be good. it's facing the correct way, it shouldn't be going to ground. fixed and reuploaded.

    3. I think the second layout has issues.

The +9V line passes through the diode and straight to ground shorting the board. I think there is a cut missing, but I am still trying to find out where to put it...

      Delete
    4. Hello. I think there's a mistake in the second layout, as told above. The D4 is in the oposit (+/-) position. It will burn!

      Delete
    5. No, if you'd reverse the polarity D4, it would block all current from the power input from reaching the rest of the board.

      Delete
    6. It's not the wrong way, but it is in the wrong spot. It's cathode needs to come down 1 row and the link from pin 4 to the top row needs removed.

I think this was another re-upload bug Zach. Happens to me in the forum when I change a pic but not it's name.

  17. Moving D4's cathode down a row looks right. (On a side note: I'm stupid.)

  18. Built this one over the weekend from the first layout. Iswitched the 5532 for a LF 353N, which made it a little less "boxy" and added some nice harmonics to the attack. Another nice TS flavor, thanks for the layout!

  19. built 2 as is not wurx. sumthing bad.

    1. Hey Jeff. Without any info about your build its hard to help you at all. The layout is verified multiple times, so it will work if built correctly. So not meaning to sound like a dick, I can assure you that you've got build errors or a faulty part or parts.

      Delete
    2. Zach. I think he means the second layout...and it still has problems. See my comments above.

      Delete
    3. You may be right that he was talking about the second layout, u thought he meant he built 2 of them. I see the comments. Without a doubt it was an upload bug, cause u know those changes were made. I really wasn't trying to come off as a dick before.

      Delete
    4. I hear you lad. The upload bug gets me literally every time a repost a pic in the forum. I have to slightly change the pics name or it re-ups the previous version...even if that version doesn't exist on my computer anymore!!!

    5. sounding like a dick comes naturally to some of us z. no sweat. yes Ciara I speak of the second version. I have 2 or 3 of the first and as I said back in march. Any FUCHS stuff is great on my board..

    6. alright. finally the diode is in the right place for V2. just move the cathode up one row and you should be good to go man.

      Delete
    7. Hey Jeff. The 2nd layout is V2. Is that the layout you made that had issues?

      Delete
    8. Hey Dick....eeerrrrrr....Zach. yes. the issue, I think, was all the sound went straight to ground. Is it fixed? The pix #2 has not changed. I built 2 of the originals and love them. What doe the added diode do?
Oh and I am joking and will quit the penial references.

      Delete
    9. V2 is definitely bugged. If you look at D4 it is sending the +9V line directly to ground. I have a build of V2 and D4 gets scorching hot when the board is powered.

      Delete
    10. correct. i did not have time to fix it. i just did and reuploaded it.

    11. Thanks Zach, much appreciated :)

    12. I have built V2 now with your new upload and can confirm that it works!

    13. Any time. Cant believe the diode was 1 row too high before.
