    2. He actually sends the Imperial through the two notes torpedo live. So you're hearing the Imperial through a speaker simulator. I know he uses an IR based on a Tone King cab.

    I was talkin to an emplyee of mine the other day and he asked why I would have 4 or 5 distortion/drive/fuzz pedals on my effects board. Can someone explain what he meant? Soooo many pedals. So little time!!

      Why does an artist have 20 colors of paint on his/her palette? Can't we just use two or three colors? Likewise for effects pedals. Heck, there are nearly 300 different fuzz pedal projects on this site!

  6. Anyone getting excessive noise with this circuit? The switch and pots all work as expected but I'm getting loads of excessive background noise.

  7. Played around with this one and settled on TL072 and ITT 425 diodes. Don't know anything about these diodes but of all the different diodes and LEDs i have these sounded the best. I do get some background noise but its minor.

  8. Built this and really like the range of sounds and clipping options. I did put a 330p across the led clippers to tame some fizzle on the decay.

  10. What's the green circle on the right of pin 4 of the IC?

    1. that's a double link. so when you're building it you'll have 2 links in 1 hole. so you have one link from the right of the 100nF cap on row 6 to under pin 4 of the IC, then another from under pin 4 of the IC to the row below.

  11. I think the 220nF cap at the bottom is not supposed to connect to the bottom row, it is supposed to connect to ground, which is the row just above the bottom. (according to the Madbean schematic) He calls it C4 in the schem. Otherwise it looks right.

      The layout has already been verified.
      The 220n cap (C4) goes from the 1K resistor to ground (there is a link under the IC pin 4)

  13. Very nice pedal! I used to say that the Suhr Riot was the best od/distortion pedal in such a small format as far as handmade is concerned, but the JHS AT(madbean version), is really better!

    Here is my build!

  16. I'm trying to build this and there is no sound coming out from it, can someone help me to understand what may be the problem here. Followed exactly the diagram and checked it multiple times. Would it be the LM833P that I'm using?

There's something wrong in the Mosfet clipping section: another BAT41 Schottky diode is needed for the second 2N7000 as well (like in the Zen Drive clipping section), otherwise you get too an asymmetrical clipping (more than 2.0V for the side with the BAT41, only 0.6V for the side without it)

    1. well i think that d4 is also linked to the 2n7000 on the left i guess its still assymetrical because 2 are connected to the left mosfet . anyone else want to chime in?

  19. Hi, I think the clipping section is not correct or badly designed, is it pisible?
    Do you think it is correct?
    I think this layout has been plotted based on this scheme:

    but I think the clipping section is poorly drawn.
    I think the switch should switch between 2 options:
    -clipping 2 red leds
    or
    -clipping zendrive style,
    right?
    I think he's not doing it like this
    , is it right or am I wrong?

    ... apologize for my insistence, (I'm in the middle of build this and I need answers)

    The switch in the original is 3 positions, up, middle and down. In this design there are only 2 positions, is it correct ???

Hi there, I just build this awesome Pedal, it does really sound awesome, but here is the Problem, it is kind of extremely loud, so if I kick in this Pedal, I can't turn up the volume past 9 o'clock because it then is way to loud, and also if I turn up EQ or Air it is getting louder, maybe that is supposed to happen, but if I turn up EQ and Air fully, I can't get any unity Volume anymore, its always louder or of
    Any Idea what it could be?

  23. Just built it, and after missing a cap, 3 links, and sticking something in the wrong hole (yeah, that's what she said) I finally got this working. Sounds pretty good, but I'm a little underwhelmed. My LEDs don't light up, unlike my crunchbox, and it doesn't seem to have as much dirt (as my crunchbox).

    I dunno.

  24. Thats A bit strange, the led's should light up when the toggle switch is set to the middle position. Maybe you've burned one of the transistors or the IC? Mine is quite gaini :D

Build it and works great, first take on the lm833 and it seems a good chip for drive pedal, tons of gain comes out, and a bit louder when the leds clipping switched, maybe I used Bat85 instead of bat41 cause it.. but it still great for me, thanks for layout and here some record shots for share: https://photos.app.goo.gl/axTYcKRjdFw1jfD53

  31. Got this up and running, upped the gain pot to 500k though, Might look at a different taper though as rolling the gain off also rolls the treble and the gain is bunched up at the end.

    1. Exactly, and the 4.7k on the LED+ stripe is the resistor that control the brightness of the LED. You can change the value as you prefer.

    2. Elijah-Baley, I just received an online order package of box film caps and other parts. It's for this build and another. This might be off topic but a capacitor with markings U10nJ2A was included. The "u" was kinda written very small like a superscript. Do you or anyone here know the value of this capacitor? Didn't get any result in google too and tried to contact the seller but didn't get any reply.

    3. Is this an extra cap you not included on your order? Anyway, it seems pretty clear: "10n" should be the value, 10nF. The "J" means it has a 5% of tolerance. Good enough.
      This is what I know.

    4. Oh that makes sense now. I ordered a bunch of 103J (10nF) and was too lazy to count. Didn’t know they were lacking 10 or so caps. Must’ve run out of stocks with the 103J markings. Thanks man and sorry to Alex for high jacking his post.

  33. If "this is not an exact clone of the original circuit" what's the difference with the original one?
    I know that the original JHS is the same of the Crunch Box, but the JHS should have a 100nF in parallel with the 22nF to the ground in the tone section. (Somebody said that cap there was none). I see a 1uF cap instead of a 2.2uF.
    Anyway, the most important thing I wannt to get is: LED and the BAT41 clipping should be confirmed, but what about the central position of the clipping switch? Mosfet or no diode mode?
