Here's a collection of vero (stripboard) and tagboard guitar and bass effect layouts that we have put together covering many classic and popular effects in growing numbers. Many of these have been posted on freestompboxes.org, so check that site out for great discussions on building your own effect pedals. BYOC Confidence Booster
The BYOC Confidence Booster is just a simple linear boost and buffer. The only change i made was moving the trimmer offboard to make a pot. Figured this would be a nice easy project for those that want to get started building pedals.

Output = Volume 2!
ReplyDeleteOop. Yep, should have been in the notes. I'll go bad and fix it.
DeleteJust to make it easier for first timers, whats a good replacement for the 4558 that is used in lots of others, so people can buy extras and have something for them when they're not needed? ie, TL071,72,74... I would guess 71... ;)
ReplyDeleteI've tried them all on many builds, and I think the TL072 is the best. The 4558s are too noisy for my taste.
Deletetl72, 1458, 5532, and other dual op amps
ReplyDeleteTL072 sorry
ReplyDeleteThe 4558 is used in lots of others! ;) Buy a bag of them and start a tube screamer factory. Just kidding, but seriously I bought 20 and have used most of them already.
ReplyDeleteMan how embarrassing! My first build exposed! Oh well, I've come a long way. Thanks for sharing my video :)
ReplyDeleteFunny how this is still sold at BYOC. That being the design thats creator really had a confidence boost. That is definitely not the way to use a dual opamp. For those who don't know what i'm talking about, check the TI white paper SLOA067's page 8. More accurately the section 4.2.1.

As for some weird reason, this seems to annoy me way more than it proabably should.. Here's a schem for a fixed one.

After all, it is nothing more but a buffered LPB1.

And to clarify, the layout is not annoying. The design is :)

Haha. Agree completely, just thought it was a simple build for newbies.
DeleteBut I think a second 2.2M is missing beetween IC in+ and +9V .
ReplyDeleteIt’s wasteful to use a dual opamp ic in a circuit that only requires a single opamp, that unused opamp left hanging can create problems such as generate noise for example. Newbies should learn this early on.
ReplyDeleteWhat would happen if someone used a 5089 instead of a 5088? Im getting major fuzz/breakup
