Creepy Fingers EQ/Exciter

Brad of Creepy Fingers posted about his build of the old SRS EQ/Exciter pedal with a little mod to allow for gain control. The SRS EQ/Exciter is basically a Fuzz Face with a buffer and a mid control. All I can say is this thing sounds HUGE!!!!

  1. Oh, awesome ! I was thinking of making one. This is a very good timing.
    Thanks !

  2. Nice one! I’m a sucker for a good fuzz and aside from the 20k volume pot, I’ve got all the parts on hand. Glad to see new projects on the site.

  3. Shouldn't the film caps marked 22uF be 220nF? The schematic shows them as '.22uF'

  4. Mark this one verified. Still playing with transistors (don't have any 2N3565 atm), but 2N3566, 2N2222, and 2N5089 sound decent.

  6. Hi. One question, what program do you use to build this schematics?

    Thanks a lot

  7. Yeah this thing rips I just used 2n5089s and it dooms

  8. Wow! The bottom end sounds huge. 2N2222 aren't super fuzzy in mine, I'll give a few others a try. Surprisingly low noise even with the vero powered off the breadboard. The EQ knob does heaps, sludge to dog hearing.

  9. Agree. 2n5089's are just fat and fuzzy. No gated cut off. This is a great simple fuzz pedal.

  10. Does EQ3 go to ground? Or anywhere?

    1. EQ3 just floating in the air.

Let us know what transistors you use and how they perform.

  11. I'm having trouble with my gain knob,. As I understand it, 2 and 3 ( output and input) of the potentiometer are bridged and brought to the board at I-16?

  12. This thing sounds sweet with 2n3565's, but I think I like it better with 2N2222a to-18's. I also tried 2n3904...which sounded ok...and 2n5088's and 89's which was insane. Anyone try germanium's? Maybe ac187's...or ge and si hybrid?

  13. I made it with 2n222a and Its sound very nice but the gain knob has no effect or very much almost unheard effect

    1. I noticed the same. It's an overdrive at the lowest and 8 o clock has a big bump in gain. The higher the mid/tone knob is, the more noticeable the gain character pops out. I definitely like this way more than my Fuzz Face!

  14. I'm sorry if my question was asked before (in another post or some). In most layouts I found Infos like "Volume1 to Ground, Volume2 to Output" and the like. My problem is that on the layout I can't find any hint on where to connect Volume (1 & 2) and Output. It has to be obvious but sadly it isn't to me and so I can't build those great effects. PLS HELP A TOTAL NEWB! thx in advance.

Check out the offboard wiring section in the link below. Hopefully that will clarify it for you:

Good luck with the builds. It is addicting....

    2. actually no, I can't find an answer to my question in that description. If there are no reference points on the board I don't know where to connect the Pots and jacks. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
maybe you could explain it to me like I am 5 yo :D pretty please

    3. does that mean I connect the volume pot pin1 with ground, pin2 with output jack (signal) and pin3 with volume3? sorry for my stupidity
