Brunetti Taxi Drive

"Taxi Drive is the Brunetti booster/overdrive. It is endowed with “FET-DIODE” hybrid technology, class A gain structure, to shape the sound in an original and innovative way. These features make Taxi Drive very versatile: you can use it as a simple booster or to obtain a very warm and winding crunch sound, moving easily from bluesy to tweed shades. Thanks to sensitive and very effective controls, you can mould and color the sound as much as you like, respecting the basic and typical qualities of your instrument. Taxi Drive is perfect to boost crunch sounds into lead field or as a stand-alone effect, it gives excellent results in every situation!"

Seems to work very well, great pedal. I didn't have a TL071 though, so I used an LM741. For the bias resistor I used 12k, to get 4.0V on the drain.
    Once I swap in a TL071, I'll compare it to my friend's original! :-)

  2. Hi,
BC337 alternative? What hfe has, approximately?
And the model of the other transistor?
    Thanks!

  6. Hi,
any alternative to the BA diode?

  7. Hi! In case somebody is searching for a diode: BA159 worked fine in my board. I've used a 2N5457 instead of the J201 and had R1=8,2kOhm to get ~4V on drain. Instead of the BC337 I used 2N5088.

As written above: Tone1 and Tone3 should be swapped. It hasn't been corrected on the layout.

  8. Just finished this today. I used 2N5485 in place of J201, and for D1 used 1N4007. For the bias resistor I needed to set to 1.8Kohm to get ~4v on drain. Also, as above Tone 1 and 3 swapped.

Sound's pretty good, very bright. I can't tell a difference between switch positions.

    1. Ended up revisiting this since I didn't love the sound. Swapped out the 2n5485 (in place of the J201) for a BF244A. Sounds really nice now, the brightness before was a bit harsh. Also ended up swapping the 22K resistor with a 180K one to get a bit more gain with single coils. But now the min-gain is a bit too high (with humbuckers particularly), so I may switch it back, or maybe get a 500K gain pot.

  9. love it.. used a j201 for the jfet and a FR207 for D1. it sounds just fine with a 10K bias resistor.. it is a good sign when you end up jamming while "Testing" the circuit longer than it took to build it.

This is a pretty straight forward build and sounds pretty good too.
