MXR Distortion III

Being so similar to Wylde Signature and GT-OD, i can understand why this one was still missing from the library. Well. Up the 100n to 220n-1µ from inverting input of the driver amp to VRef and swap the clippers for LEDs. Should be worth your while...

  1. Hah I have one of these floating around in my studio. It's not very good but it could be modded to sound better. As it is it's a bit thin and fizzy

  2. Nice one. May have to give this one a go. Thanks guys for this website and all the work you do. I am relatively new to pedal building but must say i have truly found my passion/obsession.

  3. tag it Miro!
    verified!
    i didn't have any 1.8m resistors, so i've used 1.5m.
all pots working as they should.
my mates are planing an iron maiden tribute band(lol!), and i wanted to build a distortion+ cause i've read that that was what they had in their first steps!...so when i saw that today i said why not??lets see if my friend likes that!!
    thanks man!

  4. This is really different to the Distortion +

You should build them both to check it out

  5. hi miro!
is that dod250 close to what i'm looking for?i thought that it was an overdrive.my friend is looking for a distortion with lots of treble.
this one (mxr distIII) is great but not much like maiden...
but the more i play with it the more i love it so i'll keep it for myself!!
i think i should build dod and the old mxr for my friend to taste and then box the best one.

    anyway..
    finally the working voltages

    supply 9,00v
    ic
    1. 4,36
    2. 6,2
    3. 2,9
    4. 0
    5. 4,2
    6. 4,37
    7. 4,38

    1. I'm on a bit of a sabbatical at the moment and having a break from it. I will be back before long but at the moment don't have much energy for it, and have got too many time consuming things taking up my time with my normal life.

I will definitely be back though, but don't want to put an estimate on when at this time. There should be plenty of projects to keep you busy in the meantime though, and I will be joining in the conversations and troubleshooting when I can.

    2. Thanks for the reply. I hope to see more projects in no long, and also hope you enjoy the personal time and finish with success your things.

  9. Hi
when you say outpout 2 to output you mean the output 2 pot is the output of the pc board ?

    Franck

    ReplyDelete
  10. Lug 2 of the output aka volume pot is connected to the effect output lug of your bypass switch. This is the same on almost every circuit you'll build on here

  11. Definitely take a look at the offboard wiring tab on this site to answer all of your basic wiring questions

  13. seriously I know nothing about electronics, may be just what is a resistor or a transistor or capacitor, but I've done a lot of pedals just the first problem asked me ... if you want to see, I'm on a stupid project, which was to fiare fair housing with materials recovery :) ... I'm printer, signmakers so I can tinker full of stuff ! I've used Dibond & plexi glass 3 mm…

  18. Hi Guys,
Will this work with a bass guitar?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. no reason why not. you may need to do some tweaking to allow more bass frequencies to come in to make it more bass friendly.

  20. Hello everybody,
Can I replace MC33178p with MC33078N? Cannot find an MC33178p...
My other options would be an JRC4558 and a TL072CN.
    What would you guys suggest?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, you can use TL072CP or maybe OPA2134A. I just built this, sounds cool, but a little bit thin sound for me. I'll modify a little later.
I used some parts with not exactly thesame values as on the picture.

  22. Just made it. Couldn't find MPSA14, so MPSA13 was used, IC is 4558.
After turning on there is very loud and continous squeeeeeak, and guitar sounds like from fuzz.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
