The input cap (4n7) could be upped to at least 22n and there are other things one could do to this too. Clipping on a switch and so on. You won't be saving any money building this though... The power filter cap is 1000µF in the original unit, but i left it at 220µ for this layout. Both of those values are a overkill. You'd be fine with 47µ or 100µ in its place.
Here's a collection of vero (stripboard) and tagboard guitar and bass effect layouts that we have put together covering many classic and popular effects in growing numbers. Many of these have been posted on freestompboxes.org, so check that site out for great discussions on building your own effect pedals. Enjoy the builds and please also visit us on Facebook and Twitter

BBE AM64 American Metal
I wasn't aware that BBE would release nice, simple designs with all through-hole components for good bargain prices. Funny how all the units on eBay are priced about a double of the original unit as a new...

Hi Mirosol, this is verified. I have a confession though. After a Xmas celebratory weekend out (Sun/ Sat) I came in turned on the PC and started to build what I thought was a Proco Rat 2. Next monring not remembering any of it found this half made board sitting on my workbench. Discovering it was actually this I thought it best finished off. Made up for where I failed on the Arion metal anyway. Sound wise - good sustain and tone and plenty of gain. Although got safty sake dont try to build this one after a xmas night out lol.
ReplyDeleteI meant "for safetys sake" god Im still half cut.
DeleteSorry one last thing I subed the 330pf for a 380pf, dont know what effect it had but it was all I had and it sounds fine, no clips, quiet spots or anything to report.
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear Jim! I stopped building drunk a long ago :P I mean, who hasn't built at least one circuit completely shitfaced? :)
DeleteThe 330p/380p is there to tame the high pitch noise that may occur without that cap, so 380p is a very good substitute. You would have been fine with 470p too.
Thanks for verifying. I'll tag it right away.

ReplyDeleteBuilt this and like it a lot. Had no issues with it, nice easy build The tonal variation is great. Messed with different LEDs but red seemed best.
ReplyDeleteHave to add that this is such a good pedal i can't stop playing it. Definitely a keeper on my pedal board (floor).
DeleteHey everybody. May I get schematics? Want to make own layout
ReplyDeleteYou have LAYOUT BBE 427 DISTORTION MIROSOL?
