Continuing with the layouts I made that day. Here's the fifth version of the dirty boots. It's a germanium
overdrive based on the first version, there's an additional pre-gain pot that controls ho much signal is entering the effect.
I built this, but used 22nF caps instead of 2nF caps, since I found a V5.1 schematic with 20nF caps in front of each transistor. However, the sound was much more like a distortion than an overdrive. Putting a 2.2nF cap in series at the input did result in a tighter, cleaner sound in OD territory, so maybe 2nF is not too small for the coupling caps after all. The layout works, in any case.
For transistors, I used a few different 2n586's with Hfe's around 60. Silicon 2n3904 and 2n5087 transistors also worked well for Q1.
What kind of boots are these?Are these the Lightest work boots or of some other category's?
