Black Arts Toneworks Revelation Super Lead

A revelation. Stripped down all out amp pusher. The Revelation has a trio of controls. Pre Gain, Gain, and Volume. LOTS of volume. Pre Gain sets the overall gain level of the device, the gain control dials in the correct amount of distortion and the volume knob absolutely slays the front end of your amp. Think of the Revelation as an extension of your amp’s pre section. Use it to push your amp into super creamy saturation, use it to boost your riffs into full and thick exaggerations of your amp’s base tone. The Revelation does not alter your tone, just makes MORE of it. Choose the Revelation to hammer your amp.

The SuperLead version of the Revelation is a rawer, more aggressive take on the circuit. A bit gnarlier, mid focused, aggressive sound. Specifically tuned for guitar, and baritone guitars, choose the SuperLead for a fuller, fatter, more saturated and aggressive sound.

While there is no schematic for this one I did some comparison between the Black Arts Toneworks Revelation Super Bass and the Pharaoh, and what I noticed is that the values are identical, with the tone control removed. This leads me to be fairly certain that the Black Arts Toneworks Revelation Super Lead is the same concept, but with the values for the LSTR, since the tonal description matches that of the comparisons between the Pharaoh and LSTR. So I figured since I had the layout out to modify it to match the Oath (Black Arts Toneworks Revelation Super Bass without pots) I might as well take the time to change it over to the Black Arts Toneworks Revelation Super Lead as well.

So it's a striped down LSTR without the tonestack.

Black Arts Toneworks Oath

Essentially the oath is the Black Arts Revelation Superbass without any knobs. After VisualFuzz found an image of the Oaths board, and having to enhancing it to see the resistor values without the image being distorted I'm pretty certain that I've got the values and placements for the resistors to replace the pots.

The SuperBass version of the Revelation is a rounder, more dynamic take on the circuit. A bit bassier, gruffer, throatier sound. Works equally well for guitar or bass, choose the SuperBass for a fuller, fatter sound.

After looking at the schematic it seems like a really stripped down big muff, and I mean stripped down. In particular it's basically the Pharaoh without the tonestack.

Black Arts Toneworks Black Sheep

In all of it’s throwback glory, the Black Sheep. Dirty, mean spirited and a blast to hang around with. You can’t help but feeling a bit dirty when you plug in.

Essentially it's a modded BeeBaa with an input cap selector like you see on the Black Arts Black Forest. One thing I will say is that if you notice in the demo videos the fuzz knob is never turned up to the max, that's because it will start to feedback on itself like a mother.

Different transistors change tone of the effect. I messed around with different ones, and settled on MPSA18. They tamed a bit of the metallic decay that I heard with the 2N5089.

Black Arts Toneworks Pharaoh Supreme

The Supreme has all of the sounds and abilities of the Standard and Primitive Pharaohs, but with some very useful additions and a bit of a twist.
In place of the hi/lo switch,the Supreme utilizes a variable pre input control to infinitely adjust the saturation of the front end of the circuit from 1 to 10. In Place of the 3 way diode selector, the Supreme utilizes a 6 way rotary switch to select from the Standard Pharaoh diode settings, plus an additional 3 setting not available on the previous Pharaohs. The Pharaoh supreme allows selection from the following diode settings: Germanium, Asymmetrical Germanium(standard Pharaoh), Silicon (standard Pharaoh), Mosfet,LED and Bypass (standard Pharaoh).

The Pre knob control in addition to the Clip knob, produce an array of sounds and textures that expand the Pharaoh into the ultimate, or Supreme fuzz-stortion that Black Arts has produced.

Layout Updated:

A second layout for this effect, sorta requested, so i made a few modifications to the original layout posted. This once adds another space for the 2nd Ge diode for the asymmetrical clipping, and replaces to last clipping sockets with a single jumper, which should be there anyways. If you want to play with the clipping arrangements instead of the stock, use the clipping board in the first layout.

Black Arts Toneworks Quantum Mystic

The Quantum Mystic Overdrive was developed working closely with Mike Scheidt from the Portland Oregon band, Yob. Mike is known for great tone and groundbreaking music in the metal and doom community. We decided to adapt his favorite pedal from the seminal early YOB records into an updated and upgraded circuit. The Quantum Mystic is an opamp based distortion/OD featuring a 3 band active EQ and germanium clipping. It draws cues from Mike favorite old Grey Distortion, boiled down by a wizard, tweeked, manipulated, upgraded and using both mine and Mike’s ear, we sculpted the form you now hear and feel. Use the active Eq to cut frequencies to represent the old school sounds, or use the EQ to boost the final gain stage to go into the heavily saturated and distorted tones of the future. Dial back the distortion, boost the volume and use the active EQ to find sparkling clear boost tones. Dime it all and get a ball molten lead that propels the Universe Throb. Needing a captivating presentation, we summoned the artwork of another underground legend, Arik Roper. We pulled together something pretty special and I think you all will like this one.

Black Arts Toneworks Black Forest

A modern upgrade on the Colorsound Overdriver.  I have included a 6 position 2 pole rotary switch and you can do it one of two ways.  Use the cap daughterboard I have shown in the layout (which will only actually uses one of the poles), or if you prefer you can just solder the caps straight to the switch like this:

8n2 between lugs 1 and 7
10n between lugs 2 and 8
22n between lugs 3and 9
47n between lugs 4 and 10
220n between lugs 5 and 11
470n between lugs 6 and 12
Sw B > out to Q1 base on board

If you do solder straight to the switch then I'd recommend putting a 1M resistor between the input wire and ground in a convenient place to avoid those switch pops.

Black Arts Toneworks Fnord

One for you glitchy octavey fuzz fans.  Info about the original:

The Fnord is a octaver / fuzz type circuit with some twists. It blends a scrambler / octaver type fuzz with a more traditional fuzz / distortion. From zipper/Velcro tones to a full throated distortion, or a combination of the two. Add a sizzle to your leads, make a rhythm sound that harkens back to the days of screwdriver modified speakers, or a tight lightly gated distortion. If you can’t read between the lines, Fnord!

1-Knob Fuzz Bonanza

Request. This is just to add the requested Black Arts Toneworks Ritual Fuzz to the library, but i just couldn't resist rewriting Dr. Tony Balls' "Universal One-Knob Silicon Fuzz Layout" and adding the Black Arts' version of this classic to it. So here are 5 currently known adaptations of the almighty 1-Knobber. Adventurous minds could swap the values and get theit own flavour in there.. Simple and small. I sense small box fuzzes coming... :P

Edit. Oops.  I made a tiny error on the original layout. Lower electrolytic, the Q2 bypass cap, needs to be minus to ground.. Layout fixed. Should work fine, but the cap will probably die a lot sooner if it is in reverse. Now fixed...

Black Arts Toneworks LSTR

The Black Arts Toneworks LSTR is the red-headed step brother of the Pharaoh. The LSTR provides even more fuzz and mayhem than its brother with the swell of low end you would expect from any Black Arts pedal. This Toneworks beast uses a uniquely interactive tone control circuit allowing for a traditional tone control as well as a control for scooping the mids right out of your signal. This tone circuit allows you to achieve Russian style scooped mids with a smooth attack or huge wide-open fuzz and perfect string definition with ease. The LSTR is hyper-active gain in a box that could get you sent to bed without dinner.

The fuzz control alters the amount of clipping. From a clean boost to a slight overdrive all the way to feedback mayhem the Black Arts Pharaoh covers all the bases. The Hi/Lo Input switch controls the first stage of headroom and clipping. With the switch in the Lo position the headroom increases, in the Hi position the clipping increases providing you all the growling fuzz tone your heart desires. The bottom switch is a three-way toggle to switch diodes (germanium, no diodes, silicon) adding even more versatility. With the silicon diodes in the circuit the pedal will add clip with less volume or add the germanium With the diodes out, the headroom increases with less clipping. The Black Arts Toneworks Pharaoh was designed with specific signal capacitors which pass all frequencies so none of your sound gets left behind.

Update: I missed a cut from the vero so anyone already building this should put a new cut 2 rows directly below Q2 as shown in the updated layout.
