Here's Pete Moore's RangePig - an adaptation of Rangemaster with single low gain germanium transistor configured with modern silicon counterpart as darlington. Note that this is a positive ground effect, so you can't daisy chain this with other boxes that use negative ground. A simple pump is always your friend.

Yes, I tested it and sounds great, I checked with 2 transistors, one 50 and another one 122 hFe and it goes from trebly warm overdrive with 50, to much more dirty than I need in a booster, but it's a good thing to have the chance to test it...both them very warm. Just one thing if others build this, Level Pot is reversed, the 3 is 1. And I also put another pot instead of a trimmer if someone else want to try this too, the upper leg pin in the stripboard is the pot 3rd leg.

ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of the Ge/Si Darlington. How easy would it be to make this NPN? I have lots of NPN Si trannies and some low Ute AC176s.

No one explains it at all. It's like its for some special country club or something.... Add the putain diagrams of the wiring... merde...
