Here's a collection of vero (stripboard) and tagboard guitar and bass effect layouts that we have put together covering many classic and popular effects in growing numbers. Many of these have been posted on freestompboxes.org, so check that site out for great discussions on building your own effect pedals. Enjoy the builds and please also visit us on Facebook and Twitter
I take that back.... I've just heard the "4ms Standard Swash" They're noise makers not Guitar pedals. no place for all that work just to get something I can get by farting into a tin can.
It's closest to the the NYC big muff, if you wanted a started point. Replace the trimmers with appropriate resistors if you don't care to use it as a noisemaker. Most demos do just make noise with them, but it DOES do regular stuff too.
I've recently started adding 560pF caps across the schottky diodes, and a .1uF cap to ground at the input of the octave. It helps tame some of the brightness. You can also just use a blue or white LED to drop the voltage for the starve-- I honestly don't remember why I used a regulator, but I have a bazillion of them now, sooo.
I cannot get the link to work, but thank you for sharing it with us! I personally love builds with 10,000 knobs and noise utility. Sometimes it's really fun to get some oscillation out of something up front and run it through a bunch of stuff like this.
I've nearly finished my build and have been reading up on this pedal. I'm super excited to get it finished. While I was browsing some forums I found that Diode 1 and diode 2 switches should both be On-Off-On DPDT. I used On-On so I need to replace mine.
I finished my build and I'm pretty sure it works. I've never used an original Gnomeratron, so it's hard to know if everything works in the same way, or even if I've put all of the controls in the right place. I have been able to get a nice "fizzy" fuzz tone and make some crazy harsh noise.
A few things to note; It's a bit quiet in some settings and sometimes the sound disappears completely. To get unity with my input signal I have to turn clean and both tone knobs fully CW. I used off board pots instead of trimmers and ended up reversing two of them. Not sure if the tone pots are working correctly. The tone switch doesn't seem to have much effect.
this guy could have gotten many more usuable sounds by turning that oscillation off, but ierror loves oscillation. watch some other videos of this pedal before judging it because others can produce some really unique synthy tones that are somewhat usuable
This pedal is the embodiment of the phrase "Oh, we dont play guitar, we play pedals!"
ReplyDeleteThats just........insane!
ReplyDeleteI’m glad I already had one and didn’t care for it so I don’t have to build this and deal with the wiring lol
ReplyDeleteSweet Jeezus Alex, what a layout!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is without any doubt the worst sounding pedal I've ever heard

ReplyDeletemaybe in the 60s someone said the same things hearing hendrix playing a fuzz for the first time :) I would say "no place for no experimentation!" :)
DeleteOMG you actually did it!!! I am very appreciative of this contribution thanks!!! It would have taken me 2 months to draw it out lol
ReplyDeleteSuper impressive layout!
ReplyDeleteHey, guys!
ReplyDeleteHere's a schematic for the newer versions, if you're interested.

DeleteOnce again, thanks for sharing.
Love that you came in to chime about your build
