BuGGFX Raincoat

From blistering, octave-tinged fuzz all the way down to dirty, fat overdrive with a turn of your guitar's volume control, the Raincoat has a sound all of its own. Is it an overdrive that does fuzz? A distortion that does overdrive? A fuzz that does it all? We have no idea. All we know is, it's a Raincoat; the Raincoat.

  2. This looks very much like a Big Muff in it's components and implementation, and as I have already built one of those, i don't need to build another - am I correct?

    A lot of us here have built all kinds of Muff variants. I gotta think I've done at least 15 different versions over the years

    But if this is "octave tinged" and all that it seems pretty interesting and different. Looks like a different tone stack than usual at a glance, could be very different sounding

    1. Good answer. I'm not even keeping count how many muff variants i've built over the years. All have their own flavours and personalities.

      Here. No clipper diodes and and the tone is a treble cutter after the recovery stage instead of basic lpf/hpf before it. So yes, it has a lot of common with the classic, but i wouldn't probably think of this as one of those basic variants we've seen a lot.

  7. This one is a bit different from the typical Muff. It's not an octave fuzz but with the sustain cranked you get hints of an upper octave.

    1. PCBs with board mounted pots are always great. I hope some folks will grap a board from your shop! Aren't those made to fit 125B?

  9. Should the +9v be connected to both the upper transistor bases or is there a cut missing right of D1 upper leg. Sorry if thats a stupid question but i built this and its not working.

    2. Add one cut to 10 horizontal 5 vertical and 470k resistor from 15 horizontal 3 vertical to 14 horizontal 7 vertical.

    4. True. The cut between the bases of Q3 and Q4 was missing. And the bias resistor (470K) was missing from Q4. Both are now fixed. Thanks!

      If some built the earlier, eroneous one - the the fixes mentioned above will fix it.

  10. Verified, you can tag it. It sounds very nice and works very well with the guitar volume.
    I can't ear any octave on mine though, but not a pb
    I used 550c but have some 549c on their way home so I'll try and see if I can ear a difference

  11. Just finished this and this is a fantastic sounding fuzz. I used cheap multi layer ceramics for the caps and bc550s. No way near the same sustain levels but still a fantastic one for the collection. Thanks for another fantastic layout!

  13. I'm getting my sustain cut off. Sounds like it's being starved. Yeah nice and fuzzy but it sounds like a gate is set far to soon. I used BC549c and even checked the hfe for any at far ends of the range. Any thoughts welcome.
