Here's a collection of vero (stripboard) and tagboard guitar and bass effect layouts that we have put together covering many classic and popular effects in growing numbers. Many of these have been posted on freestompboxes.org, so check that site out for great discussions on building your own effect pedals. Video on how it sounds
ReplyDeletehttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7j0tQwo5oEQ
That sounds pretty damn good to me. I've got some BC108B and I'll probably build this over the weekend
ReplyDeleteWhere do I find 25uF caps?No luck on my usual Tayda or Smallbear...
ReplyDelete22uf will be fine
ReplyDeleteAlright, thanks.Really like what I heard on the video that was posted.
ReplyDeleteLinear for both pots?
ReplyDeleteThe schem that I used didn't specify. I'd start with linear
ReplyDeleteI found this quote somewhere else:
ReplyDelete"So, I took the pedal apart and it does match the schematic posted except:
The transistors are BC172B
The input AND output caps are 22uf....not 50."
Not sure if it is allowed to post a link to other diy-boards so I only relay what might be relevant here. In the above perfboard design that would mean the 47nF instead of "50nF", of course.
Sry, "uF" not "nF". (God, I hate that there's no edit-button... ;))
DeleteTo clarify: the guy was refering to an original Höfner/Halifax "Fuzz Tone"-pedal.
ReplyDeleteHey that's a great sounding pedal. Used to be built on a few guitars with a switch on the axe. Killer 60's sound. Hope it sounds like Grand Funk Railroad fuzz guitar.
ReplyDeleteShould there be a cut between the 3k3 and 22k resistors at the bottom right of the board? Otherwise it looks like volume 2 is connected to the 9v supply.
ReplyDeleteDamn, how did I not notice that. That is ridiculously stupid. Updated and hopefully good to go
ReplyDeleteWell, someone else, *cough, whistles tunelessly, looks a bit shifty*, didn't notice until he experienced the magic smoke, bright light and strong burning smell whilst debugging, so I wouldn't beat yourself up about it.
DeleteI've not got any bc108s, so I've tried 2n2222's (hfe ~200), bc107's (hfe inconsistent) s9014's (hfe ~350) and s9018's (hfe ~120). Found it a bit splatty with all of 'em for my taste. Settled on the 2222's in the end. I quite liked the sound with the treble on the guitar fully rolled off with the Buzztone feeding into a distortion pedal, but I don't think this one's going to be boxed.
Interesting to try such (relatively) large coupling caps, though.
Cheers for the layout. Much appreciated.
Hello,
ReplyDeleteI built this using ac127's and 33uF caps. I think they fit nicely.

ReplyDeleteHi,I just finnished pedal but it's like a clean boost. If I strum very hard I hear loud crack.
ReplyDeleteCheck out the debugging section in the forum for help. In order for people to help they need more information. Photos showing the front and back of the board and wiring will let us see what's going on
