Lovepedal Champ

This should emulate a Fender Champ sound.

  2. The pot is also B100K not A. Not that it really matters much as its only unity near flat out anyhow. Thanks for drawing the vero up.

  3. Hey Alex, just for interest - is there a specific reason you opted for a 100µF instead of 47µF as per schematic?

    1. Looks like the power filter cap to me. Changing this won't change the tone of the circuit, it's designed to filter any power supply noise that might make it through. I've seen 100uf used more often in modern circuits so I'm assuming it's kind of a good practice thing...

    1. Didn't see it. This is a simple circuit and both layouts are as good as each other. This one has more cuts and it's a row larger cause we try to avoid standing components on the main page.

    1. Any NPN will work but since it doesn't have a lot of volume anything with less gain than a 5088/5089, you may find doesn't quite hit unity up full. On the flipside you could chuck a Darlington in there and grunt it right up!

  7. Works with a few different value changes, incl 1n34a Diodes. Biggest changes were 470R (in place of 330R) and 2K4 (in place of 3K3)

    Any way to increase the gain?

  8. Thanks for the heads up! For extra gain ypu could increase the transistor to 2n5089 or a Darlington. Look for higher gain (hfe) transistors. You could also try removing the resistors to ground from the emitter, and just attach it directly to ground, but leave the electrolytic in parallel to ground. You could also remove the diodes to boost the output signal but youll lose some drive tones. Otherwise you could always build a simple boost as well and run it upfront to boost the gain coming in.

    1. Cheers. I've tried a few tranies in there, including 5089, MPSA18 and s9013 and they don't make a huge difference.
      Currently running it without volume pot, output is connected to where lug 3 should be

  10. This pedal sounds great, is it supposed to be at unity volume near full blast? sounds great regardless, not sure if this is because i substituted the 22n cap for a 15n since it was all i had on hand

  12. Does lowering the Filter Capacitor of 100uF to 47uF increase the volume?
    I just finished building one, i am satisfied by the sound but i wanted more volume

  14. With mine I found this one all about the diodes. I used a d9(can't remember which type) and a 5mm red diffused and it sounds great. I'm going to use it as a half a channel switch for a bit more of everything.

  15. The red dots on the layout board, what do they represent? Planning on building this using a prototype board.

    2. I figured it out, haha. Stupid question really.

      However, I tried assembling this with the same layout as shown above, but I get DC current going to both the input and the output and no audio. Th components are all correct and have the correct layout.

      I actually own an original Lovepedal champ and submitted the schematic for this pedal. I run mine flatout and it is basically unity gain. If you are having trouble you could try different diodes but it's certainly not a loud pedal.

    3. I have a very clean fender amp so I leave the champ pedal always on as a sort of preamp now. Firstly because I like the tone but also because it's hard to get past unity on it.
