Moosapotamus Acoustic 360 Bass Fuzz

Another from John K, this time the Moosapotamus Acoustic 360 Bass Fuzz.  Info from them about their project:

I love the sound of fuzz bass. But as a bass player, it sometimes seems like I’ve been on an endless quest for a great sounding bass fuzz circuit. I’ve tried quite a few different ones, both commercial and DIY, and the one that I keep coming back to is the fuzz channel from the classic Acoustic 360 Bass Preamp.

Over the years, I’ve built a number of different versions of the Acoustic 360 Bass Fuzz, always adding some additional tweaks and modifications to the next one to make it sound progressively better to my ears. And so, I’ve always had some version of the Acoustic 360 Bass Fuzz on my bass pedalboard. But, I think I might have finally gotten to the point where I just don’t need to tinker with it anymore.

And this is John's vero based on the actual 360 preamp circuit.

    1. Aah actually I need to post another layout as well. This one was based on the actual 360 circuit. I'll edit the layout now

    2. the one in the amp has no gate pot. only the moosapotatamus one does. I've built both and much prefer the original one over the moosapotamus one. the original also works great with the split & blend, as well as being stacked before other dirt pedals (like a timmy or OCD).

  2. I also posted a few more versions in the forum of the original 360 fuzz. one has has clean blend, another with a tilt tone control, and still another with both the blend and tilt. you can view there here:

    1. Hi John, great little pedal.

Just finished your version with the blend and tilt controls, and although its working im not quite sure its working right, so wanted to check.

Ive double checked the wiring from the pots to the board, all seems ok there. Ive swopped out the TL072 which made no difference. Volume, Blend & Tilt seem ok. But Gain seems to act identically to volume - when turned hard left there is no sound at all, when I start turning it to the right, from just a small amount to all the way up, the fuzz sound doesn't change it just gets louder in volume. I would expect that to have much less fuzz but some sound still coming through when turned hard left.
And the attack pot has a large dip in volume between 10'oclock & 3'oclock as it changes the sound.

Is that how it should be acting or is something a little a miss?

Thanks in advance, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    2. it definitely shouldn't be acting like that at all. you must have an error somewhere (solder bridge/misplaced component/wrong value component etc.)

  3. for those that I haven't seen it in the forum, here's a couple of pics of my completed original Acoustic 360 fuzz, deluxe version with tilt, blend and an extra JFet output booster.

  4. BTW, I built the Moosapatomus one first and hated it (it'll never get boxed) so that's what made me draw up vero's for the original 360 fuzz. if you'd like to here a sound clip of my modded 360 fuzz, go here:

  5. Hi,

There's an error in the Moosapotamus version vero :

R5 10k resistor on the clean blend is on the wrong place causing very low clean volume.
I corrected this by removing this resistor and putting it directly on the clean pot 2.
But you should correct the veroboard...

Otherwise it's a great sounding pedal with a lot of bass inside ;-)

    1. thanks for catching that.
here's a link to the corrected one:

hopefully IvIark will post this one to replace it.

  7. Curious about the bridge icons on the Moosapatamus. At 3 columns in from the left, there is a blue circle in between where the bridge is. Is this an extra connection point (meaning bridge from bottom to middle, then middle to above) so there is essentially two bridges butted up against one another?

  8. So I finally got this one to work after taking a break from it. The only problem is, I have no sound through it when the pedal is not engaged. Engaged - it works, when the pedal is off I get no sound through. Is this most likely something wrong with my bypass wiring? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Just quadruple check your 3PDT wiring. It sounds like something might be out of place.

  9. Hi, All
Can someone explain me about those 1 uF capacitors on the board ( http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MzsswBpnlYg/Uyl0f5FQY7I/AAAAAAAAGUE/fIopr5i5jqs/s1600/360Fuzz.png ) , should they be electrolytic only, or they can be changed to 1 uF ceramic capacitors? And how this will effect the scheme? Thx.

  10. Hi, All!
First of all, big thanks for the scheme author and all those people, who helps to maintain this site. This box is sounding great, just the way I've been searching but never found in stock fuzzes.
But, after some time, I've got the thirst for experiments :).
As I hear, clean mix in this box is effected slightly, I guess it can be some capacitor that roll off highs, am I right? So, I want to play with this cap's value. Maybe someone could say what exact cap is responsible for this?

  11. Hello,
I want to build this piece, but I can't find 2N1306 in local stores (CZ).
Do you have any suggestions for its substitute?
    thank you

    1. pretty much any npn germanium will work just watch the pinouts. i am going to use a 2n1302 or 2n1304 low leakage and gain around 70hfe to start. ill report back

  12. Just finished the acoustic 360 version. It works 100 percent and is nasty. It does cut a lot of the low end out and I highly reccomend building this with the split n blend on this site. I am going to add it this week . I think this will make this pedal perfect. Thanks John K good job.

  15. Hi
I want to build a regular Acoustic 360 fuzz (second layout), but I can't figure out where does the first link go. In the layout, in the upper picture it's on the 5th column from the left but on the picture below it's on the 4th column from the left. Can anyone tell me where to put this link? Thanks :D

  16. Looks, like they connects the same point in circuit, guess it was drawn on 5-th column on the upper picture just because otherwise it would be hidden by other elements

  17. Looks like they connects the same point in circuit, so there is no difference. Guess it was drawn on 5-th column on the upper picture just because otherwise it would be hidden by 470K resistor
