Here's a collection of vero (stripboard) and tagboard guitar and bass effect layouts that we have put together covering many classic and popular effects in growing numbers. Many of these have been posted on freestompboxes.org, so check that site out for great discussions on building your own effect pedals. Ibanez ST9 Super Tubescreamer
Very close to STL Super Tube. Clipping amp and mids boost section are in different order, plus some slight changes to the buffers.
Hi folks, I was about to wire this one up when I noticed the Rev log (or lin) dual gang pot requirement. As far as can see these are damn hard to get a hold or especially at that value. Can anyone suggest and alternative ? It would be a shame not to get this verified as the board and everything else is ready.
Why don't you do something like this? Just connect the wires to the appropriate points on the board, set it to where you like it then tuck it away somewhere in the box and just have 3 external controls.
Yes external mids may be nice, but at least you'd still have full control if you need it, and being able to tweak each half of the pot separately may give you some interesting sounds out of it.
Hey Ivlark, sorry for the delay, purely magical idea that was, thanks. Few days 20k pots came, wired it up all OK, however Id like someone else to verify this as Im not sure the drive on mine has any major effect on it. Unless anyone can say that it has not meant to have a ripping overdrive to it. Id say it was either subtle or v sensitive to the size of my amp. Ive only got a marshal g215r amp to test in the house so perhaps Ill come back later once Ive tried it at rehearsal.
in the schematic from Dirk Hendrik there is one 4k7 and one 47nf cap in series from the 51k (connected to the drive pot) resistor to ground. These two components are missing in the layout. After i put them into the circuit the drive pot on mine was working properly. Maybe some of the experts (i am not) can confirm my solution.
Built it with additional toggles for more bass and clipping diode selection. Works well, although I suspect Dirk made a mistake on the schematic: tone pot only works in the first third of its turn. I checked Aion's Cirrus project, replaced the B100K for a B20K (as in most TS and derivatives), and Tone issue solved. On another note, the 20k Lin Dual also has its action on the first third. Aion's mod (changing all other components in the mid boost to use a Dual C100K) would be a good choice, methinks.

Thanks for heads up. I'll check it soon(ish).

You are correct. I have no idea how i've missed that originally. Layout is now fixed and *should* be safe to build.
DeleteThanks Schmidtse!

Miro, then you can call it verified :-)
DeleteCheers! I'll tag it.

Built mine with a 100k mids pot and 20k tone pot, works great sounds great.
