Here's a collection of vero (stripboard) and tagboard guitar and bass effect layouts that we have put together covering many classic and popular effects in growing numbers. Many of these have been posted on freestompboxes.org, so check that site out for great discussions on building your own effect pedals. Ibanez TS10 Tube Screamer
Edit 31.7.2016 - There was still one crucial error on the layout, which made the board defunct. Fixed and tweaked a few things around to accomodate the polarity protection etc. *Should* finally be safe to build.
my problem is: with 2n3904 hear the guitar sound only at the begin of picking when the signal is on top with bc546b the guitar sound is relatively good, but such as were some effect (gate, low treshold)
first of all, thank you man! you've done an incredible job here! second.. this TS10 is driving me crazy! I just can't get throught it!!! I really don't know what i'm doing wrong maybe if you could see pictures of it... i don't know anyway... if you could it, please tell me... my email: rafaelcviegas@gmail.com
I'm having trouble with this build as well. I've knifed the gaps and reflowed the solder a couple of times and nothing. I'm still not getting any signal what so ever.
I'm able to trace the signal all the way to the 1uF cap, 510K resistor, and the B leg of the transistor in the upper right corner of the board but can't seem to figure it out from there. Maybe that's why this circuit is still unverified? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Finally spotted it (with a note from Mark). The schematic over at FIS has an error on the output buffer. That's why i haven't seen the error there before. (Goddamn i hate schematics with errors!) I needed to swap a few things around to fix the layout. Easiest way for you to fix your board is to unsolder the 510K resistor and resolder it crudely between base of that transistor to the empty hole next to level 1 connection. That should do it...
I'm so sorry for the trouble. But it is FIS/Tonehome hosted schematic that is in error... +m
Hi Miro, there is an error still on the layout. Empty board does not reflect the cuts the same as the populated layout row 6 from the top. The cut should be 5th from the right not 4th...
Also there is a cut missing in the row beneath that.. Could u possibly have a look and update? I would like to build this but its confusing the way it currently is
Just a quick note to say that I have built several effects in the past, including analog delays and also build high end tube amps for clients, so I Know my way around a soldering iron. :) Just I have no schematic for this so can't verify. Cheers
Not verified and i think i found one more error. The 10K at the IC PIN 5. That should connect to vref and not to where it's connected now. But. Where i am now, i don't have access to the source files, so i'll need to redraw the whole thing...
I didn´t have exact pot values, but build this anyway, at least got sound and I think it sounded as expected, need to wait for the correct pots though until I can call it verified. It would be really great if you can check it.
Hope you saved the original file as i don't have access to it anymore :)
Take the upper lead of the 10K mentioned and desolder it. Take it two holes to the right. That should do it. For the current, fixed layout, there are a few more tweaks, so the files do not look alike. +m
Finished two of these in an wooden engrain white-oak enclosure, had to order two 20k w-taper pots for tone; without them the tone only works on the first 5% and last 5% of the pot (dissapointing). Would love to post pics of my builds; but don't know how or where.
That dot is where two links connect. Seeing two dots in the line means that there are three links and the middle joins the other two at those two dots.
For many years I had a TS10 Metal Charger which had an extra EDGE knob. It was a good pedal with the cut diode pairs.
ReplyDeleteI have MS10 and i think it's the worst Ibanez pedal i ever had :)

Gotta love the out of tune guitar in the video..
ReplyDeletewhat is the best substitute the 2n5088?
ReplyDelete2N3904, 2N5089, 2N2222, BC549, BC550 and so on. Any NPN Si transistor will do. What it is won't really matter as those are just in and out buffers.

ReplyDeletewith bc546b the guitar sound is relatively good, but such as were some effect (gate, low treshold)
There must be something else wrong in there. Those transistors are only buffers and they should not have any effect on the sound.

I just double checked the layout and don't see anything wrong with it...

ic is rc4558p
ReplyDeleteCheck for solder bridges, suspicious looking joints and reflow them.

Layout updated. It should be safe to build now.

DeleteI just did a new copy of the board image, so it has to be 1:1 now.

Hi can you let me know if anyone has managed to build this successfully yet? I am having issues with zero output.
ReplyDeleteAny help would be gratefully accepted.
cheers

ReplyDeleteStill indicates "Unverified"....
ReplyDeleteBased on GGG's mods, all we have to do is build a TS808 but replace three parts to make it a TS10.

Still not verified?
ReplyDeleteAnybody build this? Is it verified?

OK, superb! Will do that and report next week.
DeleteJust finished from the old layout with that 10K tweak, works fine. But this updated layout STILL unverified...

ReplyDeleteThis layout mentions diode 3; but i don't see a diode 3 on the perfboard?
ReplyDeleteGREAT LAYOUT, Mirosol you rock im a fan thank you .I like the champion city effects pedals well done
ReplyDeleteAm I right in assuming the first D1 is actually D3, since it's not paired for clipping???
ReplyDeleteSo is this layout ok to build? I've got a friend with a vintage original so keen to see how close I can get!
ReplyDeleteI have built 2 and they both worked well.
DeleteCan anyone tell me where d3 is as the layout only shows d1 and d2 and d1. Many thanks
ReplyDeleteThe upper D1 has just been mislabeled, so it goes there
DeleteNot boxed it yet but finally built and seems to be all working ok! This site is great!
ReplyDeleteMr Leyland: Did you build it from the current layout?
ReplyDeleteMr Leyland: Did you build it from the current layout?
ReplyDeleteYes and it's great!
DeleteThanks for the info!
DeleteBeginner Question
ReplyDeleteWhat are those two blue circle in the wire?
that is 3 links that connect at two points. those blue dots are where they connect.
DeleteThat dot is where two links connect. Seeing two dots in the line means that there are three links and the middle joins the other two at those two dots.
DeleteIs the 9.2k resistor an essential value or can I use a 9.1k resistor?
ReplyDeletewhat would be the outcome if anything?
Should be alright
ReplyDeletedid anyone bother use a 1uf non polar electro as per the original schem or just throw a poly film in.
ReplyDeleteBuild this ,But no output signal check everything for Errors but end up with No luck, Any guide or advice? Thanks in advance..
ReplyDeleteFixed....

ReplyDeletedid anyone experience huge vol drop when pedal is engaged?
ReplyDeleteI got sound. The only thing not working is the drive pot. It’s not doing anything. I’ve tried different wiring but nothing. Any tip?
ReplyDeleteI swapped drive pot positions on the board. Where drive 1 is now I put 2/3 instead. Now it all works. Verified.
ReplyDeleteGreat Tip marcus thanks
DeleteVerified!!
