    1. Although I have just noticed that I've run out of 100k log pots and somehow I don't think the Tayda order I placed 4 days ago is going to arrive tomorrow. Sigh, looks like I'm doing a pot hunt tomorrow.

  2. I am sure I asked this before but the in site search is not working so this might be a good place to revisit... Any suggestions for where we should buy veros that are more than 19 rows deep?

    1. If you're in europe, check Musikding and Banzai. There are other places too, but i'm just accustomed to get my boards from those shops.

    2. If you're in the US or Canada, this place is great:

      stores.ebay.com/pixel-print-ltd

I've ordered from them before but it took about 5 or 6 weeks to get here and postage is expensive for Europe making their prices much less attractive.

For the UK I think Rapid Electronics are hard to beat. I buy the largest boards from here:

      http://www.rapidonline.com/Tools-Equipment/Stripboard-29453

      which are 119mm x 455mm, giving you 46 x 179 holes

    3. Thanks Mark! I ordered a bunch today along with some mojo components for the 69. Right now I am loving the rto! Thanks again for keeping us busy!!!

  3. Wow his circuit has a lot of non standard components. Maplin's are going to love me today :(

    1. You could always go with the closest values :) I bet there won't be much of a difference if you use 39K instead of 40K and 41K.

    2. You read my mind, unfortunately my stash is running a little low because I'm waiting for an order, I thought seeing as I've been after this pedal for a while I'd try and get the correct values. Luckily the shop is only 10/15 minutes away, unfortunately they sell metal film resistors for 29p each! Or 10 for £1.

    3. A very, very belated answer here, but here it is for posterity anyway:

The 41k's are just voltage dividers, delivering the bias voltage of 4,5V from the 9V supply. I'm 99,9999% sure you can sub it for basically anything. I'm gonna go with 47K myself, since I have a bajillion of those lying around.

  4. Aaaaaaaand done. Tag it guys, thanks so much for this Miro, it has not disappointed. I'd love to say this worked first time and I would have been able to, except for the fact that that I experienced a moment of what can only be described as severe mental illness and plugged the negative wire into the positive and vice versa on my breadboard. Two new TL072's later and it was ready to rock.

It's a great pedal, really nice EQ options, and a good range of gain. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone wanting a distortion rather than an overdrive but it can do a decent job of a classic overdrive sound.

    1. I'm afraid the man wouldn't have nearly fried the board with his idiocy but thanks dude. Excellent layout by the way, I was expecting it to be bigger.

  5. A thousand Radiohead gearheads just came.

Maplins usually have big bits of vero in stock, just go in and pick up a couple. They also do nice ones that are on fiberboard and constructed like PCBs. I've got one but haven't broken into it yet.

Bitsbox sell big bits of vero too, for cheap.

    Cheers!

    2. There are plenty of photos of Johnny's pedalboard, so you could quite easily make a 2- or even 1-knob CreepMaster...

  6. Being low on TL072's. I built this pedal using a single 14 pin TL074 IC. I wired the TL072 connections to the corresponding TL074 ones. It worked first go and sounded great. All the Marshall pedals built from this blog have been good and easy builds. Next, I am going to do the single TL074 also on the Klon Centaur. ie. I need to use up my excess TL074 IC's. Thanks for another great Marshall Pedal Build. Mark & Miro doing a Great Job.

  7. just completed it. IMO, this is a great sounding high gain distortion pedal. I modded mine for a bit more low end and gave it more top end too (I find them a bit too dark stock).

  9. For the Treble pot, would you go 20 or 25k? I don't have a 22k.

    1. That pot is part of a high pass filter, and either will work fine. But the 25K will allow you to cut the low end down to a lower frequency than the 20K and so if you have to choose one I suppose that would make more sense.

  10. I just finished it, and it is awesome! I am tempted to tell my friend that I built it for, that I am keeping it.

  13. Made one. Really nice high gain sound! But, even with maxed treble the sound was a bit "dark", so I modded mine changing the 1nF in parallel with the 100k to 150pF. Sounds perfect now! ;)

  14. Mine works but is definitely not "high gain". It sounds great, mind you, like a mid '70s JMP cranked up but not like the Shred Master I had 20+ years ago. I'm curious to know what I might have screwed up but do like the way it currently sounds.

  15. Some schematics have a 220n cap on bass lug 1. Anyone tried that? Anyone tried both and can comment on the difference?? There's a few other different cap discrepancies. I'm really curious about all of them.

  16. Greetingz, i am going to modify a shredmaster in order to add clean blend and i would like to know if this pedal inverts phase! Does anybody know?

  17. How would I go about adding a clipping diode switch to this layout so I can switch between 1N4148 and LEDs?

    Thanks in advance.

    ReplyDelete
  18. First pull the stock diodes. Fix one wire below the ground wire on the PCB and another above Bass 1. Use a DPDT On-On switch. The wires will connect to the two center lugs. The top two lugs will be your LED's, + connects to -. The bottom two lugs will be for the stock diodes (top to bottom again). When the switch is pointing down away from the LED's and the circuit is powered on you should see the LED's light up as you strike the strings.
