Here's a collection of vero (stripboard) and tagboard guitar and bass effect layouts that we have put together covering many classic and popular effects in growing numbers. Many of these have been posted on freestompboxes.org, so check that site out for great discussions on building your own effect pedals. Enjoy the builds and please also visit us on Facebook and Twitter

EA Parallel Universe - Old Version
Newer, much much more complicated circuit has been around for years, but i thought i'd swoop up a layout for the simpler, older V1 version of the Experimentalists Anonymous Parallel Universe self-oscillating fuzz. So, noise freaks, here you go:
Hah. There's a copypaste error with 2 gate sw 3 lugs. The other should be "Gate SW1". Doesn't quite matter which one. I'll put it on hold and fix it once i get home. +m
A proud moment, my first verification! The circuit seems good to me, one question, whats the unlabelled wire on the right? Also, input needs to be labelled, aside from that, great. Thanks Dave
No worries, im genuinely proud to get a verification on here. I'll update you in the next couple of days as to how this sounds as it needs boxing before i test it some more. Should make a nice fuzz factory alternative though. Thanks Dave
Some more thoughts, i think the fuzz pot lugs need to be reversed, also, different lm386's do produce different results. In normal mode this is basically an overdrive, and a decent sounding one, clicking into either of the other modes produces a variety of wild fuzzy, velcro ripping, whistling glitchiness. Great pedal, definitely different enough to the fuzz factory to warrant keeping both. Thanks for the layout. Dave
After building this, I have a whole knew understanding of The Jesus and Mary Chain. This is one that seems like it doesn't do much, but you really have to mess with the controls to find out -- including your guitar's volume. I mean, it seems at first that only freq and starve affect the frequency. But after I messed with it, the gain control (particularly with the gate on) and the guit's volume change, depending on the combination of settings for frequ and starve. Pretty neat. After playing with the synthy sounds, I tried the different settings with the gate off, fuzzed out, and it seems like, if a simple tone stack is like binocular vision, this ring mod is like the third eye of tone. Its crazy.
Hello, i'm Alexis from Argentina. It's my first time dealing with a millenium by-pass 2 (dpdt are way cheaper than 3pdt here) and i'm having troubles with this wonderful pedal i can't wait to hear... so if someone can help me i will appreciate it so much...
The first and main trouble (i guess....) it's that the leds only lights up when i hold the switch pressed all the way down. if not it's always turned off... and referred to sound, it sounds always like bypassed, but when i hold the dpdt pressed (and the led lights up) it doesn`t sound at all... so i don't know if i`m making mistakes with the millenium wiring or there is another problem...
here is the way i've wired all the things... the draw it's kind of messy so in/out tips and led are not drawed to not mess it more. for the millenium i used a BS170 and a 1n4148 as diode.
Thanks you so much!!! (and sorry for my english...)
Great pedal! Very interactive controls and a good range of tones, from bit crushing to some cool drive fuzz. Who knew you could get so much from a LM386? It is quite different from the Fuzz Factory, not quite as musical (IMO) but more interactive. Should also work great with drums and synths. Thank you very much for sharing, Mirosol.
Does anyone have any thoughts on reasons the starve works with jrc386d but does not produce noise with utc lm386l? The lm386 is sounding better than the jrc386 with the gate off I'm getting nothing from the lm386 when gate is on. I have two of each type and I'm getting the same results when I swap out the ic.
So far I can see that the cut on the bottom row should be over to the right two holes.
ReplyDeleteYou are correct. Thanks for heads up. I'll fix it once i get home.

Also look at the 9V path of the schematic. I think there is a mislabeling somewhere between the power source and the gate switch /starve pot.

I'm pretty sure we'll find errors from my layouts. I try to be as accurate as possible. I think i'm getting better all the time..

Cant wait to build this, im going to build this, the fuzz factory and the fuzz gun and have a shoot out, the loser ends up on ebay.
ReplyDeleteCheers

Committed the fixes and updated the layout. Unlabelled wire didn't connect to anything...
DeleteThanks Dave!!!

So the Gain 1 needs be Gain 3. I'll fix that right away...
DeleteThanks.

Built this tonight... absolute madness :)
