ARC Effects make some fantastic pedals and has some of the highest build quality I've seen in commercial pedals, and I would wholeheartedly recommend their pedals to anyone if you're in the market for something they make.
Here's a collection of vero (stripboard) and tagboard guitar and bass effect layouts that we have put together covering many classic and popular effects in growing numbers. Many of these have been posted on freestompboxes.org, so check that site out for great discussions on building your own effect pedals. Enjoy the builds and please also visit us on Facebook and Twitter

ARC Effects B3
This is ARC Effects take on the Burns Buzzaround with a negative voltage inverter to provide -9V to allow you to maintain a daisy chainable negative ground, but use the better quality PNP germanium transistors. This is a mojo version as per the first edition of the pedal.

Is this the 100th vero released this month ? Congrats to you and Miro. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThanks Alan, and yes, we're both going on holiday for 3 months now :o)
Deleteha, even if you did, it would take me more than 3 months to catch up on my builds. Too many good ones to choose from.
DeleteCongrats on the 100!
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDeleteNow, the non-mojo for 101...
Just kidding! Take a bow, gents.
I've got a non-mojo version of exactly the same layout, but it's still 25 x 9 holes and so if you want to do it, you'd be better off just using the compact Buzzaround layout and a separate daughterboard negative voltage inverter.

Congratulations! what a great team you are!-D And you have two days before January finishes... who knows which number you'll reach! The only problem is I'm going crazy thinking which ones I'll be building, so many choices, so little time! Thanks a lot!
ReplyDeletewhat to use a volume pot? 100k lin?
ReplyDeletehi! I built the B3 as my 6th project from this site. since I own a Klinger Buzzaround MKII I´m in love with it´s sound. But the Klinger has a feature I really like to add to this B3 Layout: A Pregain Knob. Has anyone experience to tell me where to place it in the circuit? I could deliver some gut shots if this will help.
ReplyDeletePossibly, post a close up pic of the board and pots
Deletei posted some pics here:

I can't tell from that, it's too complicated with all the black wires from a couple of pics. There are a couple of ways of adding a pre-gain control, so just have a look at that pot and try to trace where the wires go. I suspect that one will go to the stomp switch, one will go to the board and one may go to ground. Just see if that is the case
Deleteyes, i just took the shortcut and put a VR before the circuit. it tames the fuzz like a volume knob on a guitar. it´s quite cheap, but...works for me.

ReplyDeletehello everyone,
ReplyDeleteHOW can I give this dirt box more bass response?
Is there a simple way to make it sound more dark?
depends on what you mean by dark. if you mean have more bass enter and/or leave the effect then typically you can increase the input and output caps. increasing the input cap allows more bass in, which would have more bass frequencies be affected. increasing the output cap will allow more bass out of the circuit. these usually work hand in hand, but don't have to, so you need to experiment. if you mean the bass being affect by a tone knob you'll need to play with the caps and resistors in the tonestack. as far as gain is concerned, you'd want to play with the resistors in the gain stage.
Deletemy suggestion is start with the input and output caps and see what you think.
Hi and thanks . the input cap is the 100n in the legt? But which one is the output cap? The other 100n vor this 1n. ?
ReplyDeleteI am just curious because i own a Klinger buzzfuzz and it has a much more intense sound. I guess it is also considered a buzzaround. My clones just sound like light versions...
DeleteHey Bratislav
ReplyDeleteMy opinion is that you should first look at increasing the value of the 1n cap in the timbre control
Increasing to something from about 4n7 to 10n will give you a fuller louder sound
It's a common mod for boutiquers to make the sound less strident
awesome! this layout CAN sound really good and BALLSY. this time it wasn´t about the input/output caps. it was about the transistors i used. i should have stuck with the values suggested in the first place. after swapping transistors for some low-hfe ones i got that bass response i knew from other clones.(with even more low end. thanks for your help travis and john!). i even got a better sustain sweep from low to high fuzz i love your side! the only downside is that i have a little background swoosh/noise. let´s see how i can fix it.
