Frantone Peachfuzz

Information about the original from Frantone:

This 3-knob Peachfuzz fuzztone has all the great classic sound with 50% more gain than the classic 2-knob model.  It has been hot-rodded with super quiet circuitry and the addition of a rockin' tone control.  Truly the finest in lead-guitar tone and second to none in performance, the Peachfuzz is a must for all serious players.   Looking for a screaming cranked-to-ten amp-in-a-box, smooth singing fuzztone, and overdrive distortion all in one?  Well, this is for you!

The first layout I posted was fine, but there was an unused row and so I managed to make it slightly more compact:

Updated layout from the Rev 5 schematic:

  2. Thanks dude. Sorry for being such a lazy bugger, but I trust your opinions a lot more than my own on such matters! :0)

  3. The 120k going into pin 2 of IC3 just needs to drop a row to pin 3. Then it's ok. Great sound, thanks mate.

  6. Another newb question, where does it output to? I see you have an input, but no output?

  7. Can anyone verify this layout? are pins 5-7 unused on the TLC2262. I am planning to use a TL022 and I found a schematic from SoundToys showing pins 1-3 are unused, like someone switched the direction of the IC. Is TL022 configured the same as TLC2262?

    Thanks,
    D

    1. It's quite possible that different layouts use different channels of the opamp. 1-3 is one channel, 5-7 is the other and it doesn't matter which you use, so I used the one which flowed best with the layout.

    2. Thanks Mark, I didn't think about that. I am about to build it this week now that I have all the parts.

  8. I have literally never done any building before hand, but i dont have the money for the pedal. I do however have the diy attitude to make my own. the only thing is, i have no experience. could anyone point me in the right direction as to where i can learn about the process before i attempt to make the pedal?

    1. I learned from a BYOC kit. But I think if you start with a very easy project from this side it's doable. Lot's of info and weblinks here.

  9. I got this one working. I dont feel like it has all that much gain though- and its sounds pretty terrible with the gain knob below 3 oclock-tone control is the same way. I wouldnt think subbing a tlc2272 for the 2262 would be the cause, anyone think differently? Would it be worth while auditioning different 386's?

    1. I have had the same experience. It is a good fuzz but really nothing to write home about.
I tried different ICs and they all sound more or less the same.
I have to admit that I thought this would be a worthy opponent for the BMP but it has been gathering dust for a while now and I am looking for some solution to turn it into a better pedal.

    2. so the tlc2262 didnt help any? I dont think it would, i dont know why i wrote that. So your experience is youre not getting as much fuzz as the demo above by muffboxgirl?

    2. I'm honored (not kidding).
I am trying to improve my blog as time goes by, addings audio clips (videos possibly too), and to add posts whenever I can.
It would be great if you could share the link to the FUZZQUEST blog to others too.
It's the least I can do after learning so much from you and from the DIY community.

      Thanks.
