Here's a collection of vero (stripboard) and tagboard guitar and bass effect layouts that we have put together covering many classic and popular effects in growing numbers. Many of these have been posted on freestompboxes.org, so check that site out for great discussions on building your own effect pedals. Enjoy the builds and please also visit us on Facebook and Twitter

DAM Sonic Titan with modified tone stack
A few people don't like the tone control on the Sonic Titan, so this is a modification based on Skinpimp's Sonic Samurai. Apart from the tone stack modifications, all the other Titan components and values remain true to the original.
I've seen a video on youtube where someone played a Sonic Titan clone with an extra switch for a bright and mid mode, any idea how to implement this onto this vero layout?
Sorry for posting a double reply, but I have another question regarding the layout. I'm new to building pedals, so please excuse me if my question is unnecessary/stupid.
The 3 lugs of the Drive and Tone POT are connected to the board (drive 1,2,3 + Tone 1,2,3). Level 3 goes to the 3th lug of the Level-POT, what about lugs 2 and 1? Is lug 2 the output and Lug 1 has to be connected to the ground?
Many thanks in advance! I'll order my parts tomorrow for building the Meathead and the Sonic Titan, I'll let you know how they turn out.
Thanks! My excuses for overlooking the notes. Which of the Sonic Titan's do you like best, this one or the original layout? I can't decide which one I should build.
I haven't tried this one yet, I just did the layout because there had been a few people who said they didn't like the DAM tone arrangement so thought it would make a good alternative. I'd say build the original and see if you like it, there are plenty of satisfied customers and you may be perfectly satisfied with the tone control. It's definitely something that you should try yourself first.
I just built this one successfully so its verified now... I would love to know how to lower the gain a bit though. With the gain turned all of the way down its starts off much more gainy than the real sonic titan. I really dig the tone stack on this one though. I built a few other different sonic titan circuit clones and this one is my favorite but I gotta have lower gain if possible. I tried a 5k pot but it didn't make a difference. any ideas? Thanks.
The 1K resistor sets the minimum gain level. You could remove it completely and attach Drive 1 directly to ground, but then in the minimum gain position there would be no sound at all because the gain control will shunt all the signal to ground. Try a 470R in there or test a few and use the one which suits you best. Also try increasing the voltage to Q1 drain with the trimmer, that will help clean things up a bit too.
I made the original a while ago and really liked so I thought I'd try the modded tone stack. I would strongly advise on people making the original. Of course it all a matter of opinion but this one is very 'scratchy' and ice picky when the tone hits 12.. I keep the tone at minimum on this one.
I'm in the middle of this one right now. Everything looks good,no bridges or anything but I get no drive. The volume and tone work but I get no gain. A little bit of a clean boost but that's it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is the pot numbering method that I always follow:

If you look in the notes it says level 1 to ground and level 2 to output. All other pot lugs connect to the board.

DeleteThanks for the quick reply. I'll try both of those suggestions.
ReplyDeleteHey Mark i have only 20k pots.if i put 20k for tone can i increased the 2,2k resistor to 6.8k?
ReplyDeleteYes that would do the trick, or maybe even socket that resistor so you can fine tune it to react exactly how you want.
Deleteexactly that i was thinking...thank you Mark!

ReplyDeleteCool pedal but definitely too bright for my tastes. It would probably be best into a darker dirty amp.
ReplyDeleteguys, can anybody tell me where to find the original schematic of DAM sonic titan? or is the picture above the original? thank you...

ReplyDeleteBad JFET. Good to go now.
ReplyDeleteHey, i am trying to make a bass friendly version. Which cap is the input cap? (4n7?)
ReplyDeleteThis circuit doesn't have an input cap. The input goes straight to the jfet
ReplyDeleteThanks . is there any
ReplyDeleteway tw raise the bass a little by changing a cap?
Thanks for the layout, now I got this little moster..
