I just finished the Ruby Tuby. It works with a slight "hum" but above all the sound is immediately saturated and "sparkling" as described in comments above... Is it a bias problem? Which resistance values to correct? Thank you for your help. I ...Guess nobody has bult one of these in a while. I just did, and got the same 'octaver' sound Jan Janssen got (see comments above). Also the unit oscillates badly if I use the drive function at all. I did notice something odd in the layout, so I thought I'd post my observation: the cut 7 down and 12 across is redundant if the circuit is otherwise correct. This is no big deal, unless it indicates a different error in the layout. As always, advice is much appreciated. Today I'll try to swap out the tube and add those big caps mentioned in the comments, especially at the regulator. Cheers. After playing with this for a few days I'm not so impressed. I added a ROG Tonemender to it. That helped. But still not enough. There are better options on the web. The best one I have found is from Paul in the Lab. It's just a 386 amp with no controls. I just put a Valve Caster in front of it (veroboard for it on this site.) It sounds very good and has gain, tone and volume controls.
