And my tone control seems to be not changing much (i cant tell if its cutting something or not). I made that version with 4k7 resistor. Thank you for your advices ! Same issue with hiss!!!

Anything above 7 on the volume control and the hiss is very apparent (when not playing). Not an issue with higher gain settings and moderate volume, but with lower gain settings and higher volume, way to much hiss.

I find it strange no one else has mentioned this, which leads me to believe there is something wrong with my builds, but I can't figure it out.

So I ended up adding a 3-way "hiss reduction" toggle switch. The center position is the original unmodded circuit, which sounds great as long as I keep the volume below 7. Switch up adds in a 1n from the gate of Q2 to ground, this removes a good bit of the hiss. Switch down also increases a low pass filter I have at the output.

Been using it for a few days now, the added switch seems like a good countermeasure when the hiss becomes annoying.
MAOhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16009444316767677263noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6847048658257278783.post-20536772489293878792017-06-17T09:07:13.734+01:002017-06-17T09:07:13.734+01:00BTW here mine ;)

Probably a good compromise of hiss reduction without killing all the distortion sustain and overtones. The pedal is still plenty bright, or should I say plenty brittle.

Further increasing Q4's gate cap to 1n just about eliminates the hiss, but also effects the quality of the distortion. Might be ok though if using clean.

I do think the pedal sounds better with the 150p(s)...while playing anyway. But the background hiss is just way to much for my liking.

Also, there was little to no improvement increasing Q1 or Q5 gate caps.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has a hiss-free build.
MAOhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16009444316767677263noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6847048658257278783.post-75924754249580142012017-05-12T04:56:23.280+01:002017-05-12T04:56:23.280+01:00Glad to help! Now, I find that the tone control really works as it should, with a nice balance between bass and treble on the noon position and more bass and treble-cut to the left, bass-cut and more treble to the right- like a Big Muff, not just trebly-er than my clean tone on "zero" and various degrees of ear-piecing treble on the rest. I'll make Neil's words mine: this pedal is VERY bright. I'm using all the specified parts and stuff and I'm totally sure there's nothing wrong about my build. I think I'll change the tone pot to 100K A or even 50K A, because, just as the previous poster described, my build is sounding best with the tone knob on "0". The bright switch itself makes the circuit already plenty bright, also.

Having the super-bright tones dialed out, the circuit sounds phenomenal. I just can't believe the '65 would sound better than this. The tones are killer, and the pedal can also be quite gainy, as ROG said.
