First up, the Tape Measure Boost. The schematic calls for a trimmer for the volume, I believe the idea is to have it as a set boost inside another pedal or stand alone unit, but I thought it would be nice to have one with a volume pot instead. You can also sub the 2N2222 with any other common NPN Si transistor (2N5088, BC108, 2N3904, etc.)

Thanks Zach, that could be a nice sub for the lpb1 which i don't really like. It would be worth addind a filter cap as there is ome space for it on the layout
ReplyDeleteJust finished up the trimmer version. I'd definitely put this one in the LPB1 territory. Decent amount of boost, but it breaks up pretty easily once you pull it up past unity gain(even when using single coil pickups).
DeleteJust 2n2222 and 2n5088 so far. I'll probably try out a few more varieties when I get a chance.
DeleteBuilt one with a 2N5088 and 100k log pot, sounds great! Tons of gain
ReplyDeletegreat job on the verification. cheers man.
Deletethere is smthng wrong with mine. i used it along with a silicon tonebender mk2. the mk2 sounds great but when this boost is engaged it cuts down all the niceness of the tonebender... tried swaping trannies but just the same thing. what do you think? capacitor?
ReplyDeleteVerified. Not a transparent boost; It sucks too much treble and not too 'boosty' enough. It's better to build ZVEX Super Hard On (SHO) instead of this IMO.
