Built a 3rd one, and for some reason it is extremely farty, the higher notes are so gated they hardly ring out. Tried a plethora of NPNs, none seemed to make it much better. Tried replacing the 330r for a 820, 1k, 1k5, and 2k and didnt seem to do much either. I have no clue why the 3rd build is so gated and farty, it almost seems like the transistor voltage keeps drifting.DoomOverlordWizardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13317615258005592093noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6847048658257278783.post-39984992212436188722016-10-02T20:15:03.660+01:002016-10-02T20:15:03.660+01:00Although it says NPN Si for transistors, would thi...Although it says NPN Si for transistors, would this function okay with NPN Ge? If it was ever a problem you could always add a recovery stage like the one used in the Big Muff, but I don't think it will be necessary.IvIarkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08416945174853142251noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6847048658257278783.post-17495583347984229782014-04-14T09:19:04.661+01:002014-04-14T09:19:04.661+01:00Ouch, I hate it when sellers do that. I had a look for the ME4003 - I think I found the seller on Ebay, £7.70 for 100, but then unfortunately another £15 for shipping to Australia! Also try 2N2222, BC183L and I really like ME4003's in this circuit, which you won't find in many places, but there is a seller on eBay who sells packs of 100 for around £7 (I think it is) and they're highly recommended. You may not need 100 but at least you know you'll never run out, and you could always go halves with someone else and keep 50 each for not a lot of money. By far the best Meathead I ever built was using the ME4003.IvIarkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08416945174853142251noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6847048658257278783.post-86347268443504595882014-04-13T10:10:00.005+01:002014-04-13T10:10:00.005+01:00Built the second one, sounds pretty decent to me, ...Built the second one, sounds pretty decent to me, though I'm certainly no fuzz afficiando :) Chords get a bit farty at some settings, but there're lots of nice lead tones there.

Do you know any particular transistors to try?
