If it made a difference I would always do this the indicated way but for a series filter like this the order makes no difference. I've built 5 pedals and learned a lot from here and I'm fully satisfied with the results.
But I've just finished the V7 of this BMP and have some questions...
The tone pot does its job but not in the expected amount: it makes some effect on the tone but relatively hard to notice - and as I read here before it should be extremely sensitive. I've multi-checked the board for bridges and misplaced components or incorrect values in the tone section, the pot itself and the wires and everything seems to be ok. What could be the problem? Same problem with the tone switch...
I used 2n5088's, and noticed that in the originally posted version there is a 39k resistor on Q4's collector instead of 20k in the V7. Can it be the reason? Any ideas?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11911596526912446300noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6847048658257278783.post-56240929255299386382019-02-11T12:46:42.620+00:002019-02-11T12:46:42.620+00:00just made this. a few questions id like to ask:

When the wire bends back and forth too much it will break (usually where it meets the stripboard).

With the pedal plugged in, tug gently on each wire to see if you can isolate the issue

Regarding the hum, increasing the 470pf caps to 500pf will help slightly. This pedal has a lot of gain and it will hum. If your guitar has noisy pickups this will amplify the noise. Your wiring could theoretically introduce noise by running the 9V wire right next to the input wire for example. The input and sustain 2 and 3 wires will be the most susceptible to interference, though in practice this may not make a huge difference Travishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00836791717229314419noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6847048658257278783.post-27770237925053682352016-11-13T15:35:25.692+00:002016-11-13T15:35:25.692+00:00Hi,

Inconsistent signal.

2. Hum... I didn't have this problem with rams head, anyway the hum sounds like a strong wind sound caught on camera, like a pedal being connected to a really bad power supply (I ran the pedal with 9V battery).
The hum is sensitive to the sustain pot.
Hum is also present with the guitar volume pot off.
I also noticed odd sounds when tapping the wires that come out of the board.

Any ideas on how to solve these two problems?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06331476025177375358noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6847048658257278783.post-19459784661105027212016-11-13T15:13:27.105+00:002016-11-13T15:13:27.105+00:00No worries. a...Hi,

I have a weird problem with this build...

after successfully building Rams head vero, I didn't like the sound at all.

So I transformed it to a green russian.

Anyway, the problem is volume, it is INSANELY low on max, like completely low when my 15w amp is turned up to half. Bypassed sound, works and is 100 times louder compared to the pedal on, vol max.

I replaced every part that needed to be replaced (resistors, caps, moved diodes in correct place) except the 3 caps, those little ones 500p. I left 470p from rams head, I didn't think it would make a difference.

Pots are from the rams head build 100k log, where as on green russian's pots should be 100k lin?
Could this be the problem, if so why?

Transistors are 2N5089.

I measured the voltages and they appear okay to me, emitters on Q2, Q3, Q3 look suspicious though...

Q1 (upper left corner)
E: 1.21
B: 1.78
C: 3.61

Q2 (down left corner)
E: 0.09
B: 0,60
C: 3.74

Q3 (upper right corner)
E: 0.03
B: 0.61
C: 3.67

Q4 (down right corner)
E: 0.04
B: 0.61
C: 3.72

What do you think the problem might be?

Could it be that those little 470p?
Or can a short make a problem, not that I saw one, but is it possible for circuit to be shorted and still work on insanely low vol and show voltages?
Or even those pots? which I suspect the most.

Thank you.

P.S. I kept the wires from pots, switches, jacks soldered to the PCB, so wiring is most likely not a problem.
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06331476025177375358noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6847048658257278783.post-79060640722368026152016-07-21T22:46:41.359+01:002016-07-21T22:46:41.359+01:00Thanks once again !
