Today, I hooked it all up to see if there was still noises and now there’s no overdrive . It’s as if one of the three gain stages is completely gone. Don’t misunderstand, it makes for an amazing clean Pagey EQ box, but that dirty “whole lotta love” sound is gone. Poof. Vanished. And of course, the low volume static/clicking/crackling returns after a few minutes. There’s a rhythm to it, and the tempo speeds up/slows down as I rotate the gain knob. <br />I’m not exactly sure how to check the voltage on the MOSFET’s, everything I’ve researched talks about special tests off-boards using special tools. How do I poke them when it’s installed and on? Check source to drain voltage? Ugh. Maybe this project was over my head . Also. I used 9.1V Zeners, should I have used higher? I’ve read about doubling the rating in case of higher-than-advertised backflow voltage spikes. I’ll probably start from scratch and build a fresh board, with higher rated Zeners and BS170’s from a different manufacturer.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14378305828646700523noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6847048658257278783.post-69905390235163544262018-08-24T01:31:39.029+01:002018-08-24T01:31:39.029+01:00First, you should look for any mistakes on your bu...First, you should look for any mistakes on your build, like a cap or resistor going where it shouldn't go. Problem is, after several minutes of playing, any adjustment I make to either the gain or master knobs causes some static and popping to start. It then kind of just takes off on its own like it’s run away. I have to shut it off for a while and then it “resets”. Could this be a PSU issue? Some kind of secret devil magic voltage leaking from a cap? It’s really weird and it’s the first time I’ve built something with transistors. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks! If I connect the first leg of bass & treble together, they generally act like bass & treble controls (at reduced volume). By bringing mids down and treble and bass up you should hear a big, very distinctive scoop, and treble and bass down + mids up = a lot of mid range presence, with an almost nasal tone depending on how far you go. I like to keep the treble on mine at 11:00 or so, because I do find this pedal circuit very treble-healthy, I find the bass control is maybe the most subtle (I used Sabro's layout, BTW).
