Madbean Bacon Bits

Basic info about a Madbean original:
The BaconBits Booster is a simple op-amp based booster powered off a split rail supply. It can be used as a stand-alone boost to drive the front end of a tube amp or another effect such as an overdrive. The BaconBits utilizes an input buffer which feeds into a negative feedback gain stage. The result is a clean, high headroom boost that adds a lot of “shine” to the guitar at lower boost settings and dynamic, sparkling overdrive at high boost settings.

  1. I'm guessing a TC1044s series will work ok with this layout?
    Thx Miro! Geezer

  2. I'm looking at Madbean's schematic for this and it seems he's updated the circuit, changed a few values and added a "Warm" switch. Perhaps this one would be a good addition as well? Seems like a fun little circuit.

    2. I have had some luck with removing the cut between pin 1 and 8 of the 7660S .

    3. Ah. My bad. That cut should not be there. I'll be updating the layout soon.

    5. And yes. This is per 2013 documentation. If one wants the current 2014 revision, i'd suggest getting the 1590A suitable PCB from Madbean himself.

Adding the extended power filtering, RF filtering and FB loop cap switching, this layout would not be 1590A friendly anymore.

  3. This projects reminds me of a question I've been meaning to ask:

Has anyone found that the "quality" ICs (say Burr-Brown) they are getting from overseas eBay sellers are fakes that are actually the cheapest available unit with the same pinout?

    1. to be honest, i have yet to receive any fake ICs through ebay. i know there are a few sellers that are known to sell fake or bad ICs, so you have to know the ones to use that are reliable and honest. there are a few of them list under the bargains thread.

  4. I was surprised to see such a simple circuit left unverified so I built it. It works (of course) and sounds great actually. It's a clear sounding low noise booster

    Verified!

  5. Hey Miro, this one is good to tag as verified.

This circuit would be a great addition to a dirt box as a switchable boost

Sorry i missed the previous post.

  6. Having looked at this on madbeans's site, isn't this basically an eternity clone without the clipping diodes? Suitable to add your choice of diodes and voila, instant TS clone?

  7. This circuit uses the 7660s, like the BYOC 27v boost right? Are these two kinda similar?
Does the Bacon bits also increase voltage similarly?
